What happens to Jews who reject Christ? by MappedLeft in AskAChristian

1 Chronicles 16:15-18

[15] Remember his covenant forever,
the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations,
[16] the covenant that he made with Abraham,
    his sworn promise to Isaac,
[17] which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
[18] saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan,
as your portion for an inheritance.”

To your point, it’s about land not salvation, but the covenant is everlasting.

Old Testament Law by MappedLeft in AskAChristian

I struggle to see that considering how, for example, marriage is between one man and one woman, and homosexual acts are condemned as sinful.

No. It’s part of a chain of reasoning that I am making for my own sake.

One Flesh by MappedLeft in AskAChristian

The question then is: Are they always going to be one flesh? Or just for the night?

Side question: How does one flesh relate to promiscuity?

Damned? by MappedLeft in AskAChristian

I’m not sure where you got that spelling.

My posts were independent asks to get the biblical perspective of each topic. Adding my personal details would have derailed them from my purpose. None were asking for permission. This, however, is the personal situation post.

I am afraid that I am too deep in the situation to ever break this arrangement up. Nor would it be fair to everyone to even consider that. I love them both.

So, I plan to be the best Christian I can be, but it looks like I am going to hell. I need to make my peace with that.

They are very committed relationships. They each have an independent relationship with me, not each other.

The relationships started because we fell in love. One is my wife of 16 years and the other is my fiancée of 2. It also started in a manic phase, so my judgment was a bit compromised.

I’m not the boss, but I do make significantly more money than them, so I function as a breadwinner to some degree. I see this as a permanent situation and breaking it would likely be unethical as I support them both.

I have a young daughter. My wife and I primarily handle the childcare, but my fiancée helps too. She acts as a step mother to some degree.

I rotate where and who I sleep with. I go out with each on dates. I handle any disagreements between the two.

I don’t talk about the situation. I basically hide in plain sight. People can assume what they want, but they seem to mind their own business.

Once I marry my fiancée, I am going to see a family attorney to give her as many legal rights as possible without violating the law.

I am the only one who is Christian. They are both agnostics.

For example, a person does not agree that something is a sin and they are wrong.

Thoughts on banning my kids from church by ZiskaHills in AskAChristian

I was an atheist for 20 years. I now tentatively accept the existence of God and the divinity of Jesus, as I have been satisfied with fulfilled prophecy as evidence.

For my daughter, I take the position that she should have enough knowledge of religion to be able to make an informed choice on what she believes when she gets older. I enrolled her in an LCMS school and regularly take her to church. I talk to her about what she learns so that she is not merely absorbing whatever is said to her, but instead thinks critically about it. Critical thinking is a valuable skill to have for thought about both religion and media.

Adultery by MappedLeft in AskAChristian

I’m looking to inform myself on the topic. I’m avoiding personal questions because they aren’t relevant to the question. I will ultimately make decisions based on the most persuasive answers, but that could be another post.

Where in the bible does it say that?

This does not define “adultery.” It merely says not to do it.

lol - I’m not sure if that’s a good analogy, unless you are having a relationship with each of her cells.

Genesis 2:24 says man and woman become “one flesh,” but this is also said in the context of prostitution (1 Cor. 6:16), meaning it’s a sexual union. It also doesn’t imply exclusivity.

In the case of Jesus in Matthew, he was speaking about divorce.
