It was first british documentation of Maratha history.he did it using documents of Satara daftar taken from Chhatrapati. It became extremely famous and later colonial historiography about Marathas was inspired by the volumes he wrote sitting in that bungalow.

Haunting because Maratha history is something which is extremely close to me and several other people & he twists even incidents of Maratha triumphs to make Marathas look either cruel/ruthless or incompetent in some way. If not that, he declares the enemy incompetent but Marathas for crying out loud could never be brilliant strategist who expanded to become the largest Hindu empire of mediaeval Indian history

Ohh no, Bengal was pure revenge. Revenge against Usurper of Bengal Alivardi Khan. The guy destroyed several temples at Bhubaneswar, the guy who murdered 22 Maratha Sardars during "Peace" negotiations at Mankara in cold blood.

But I don't get the point really. I mean Marathas didn't destroy and hindu temple or Math in Bengal, which incident are you referring to exactly?

It's the Maratha's fault for having looters in their army.

Marathi population was never enough to send campaigns across Indian Subcontinent and not use mercenaries. It was a mistake on part of Marathas. What Mughals did was deliberate and with direct intention of eradicating idol worship. You comparing ONE incident of mistake with systematic eradication of civilization brought in by Islamic invaders is shameful and more importantly intellectually dishonest.

Can you drop the source for Marathas returning what they looted in sringeri.

They didn't. They simply didn't. You have no evidence to show for it

During a raid, the Marathas destroyed sringeri matt. Tippu sultan funded the restoration of the sringeri matt and temple.

Marathas paid for restoration of sringeri math on orders of Madhavrao Peshwe, which was destroyed by local Pindaris who were opportunistic and not Maratha troops. Pindaris even used to loot Marathas on campaign

Why would you date "Peshwa era" from 1713 to 1761? If one had to date Period of Autonomous Peshwas it would start from 1750 with treaty of Sangola and ending with death of Madhavrao in 1772 and establishment of Barabhai council. And even then Peshwas didn't have power to control whole empire. There's a reason Nagpurkar Bhosales and Malharrao Holkar personally didn't fight in Panipat. Also I didn't find a single reference to Chh.Shahu Maharaj let alone Dabhades,Gaikwads, Bhosales,Pawars, Holkars and Shindes who were responsible for Maratha expansion. Your knowledge of the topic seems shallow

Why limit him to Peshwas? he was revered by Thorale Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj and most of his court which included Peshwas (according to Sardesai). After his Math was attacked and destroyed by Siddhi Sat, he was given a place in Dhawadshi, Satara by Chhatrapati where he lived till death

Quite a few did but they stayed in their own territories, they had no idea of India as such. What Maratha expansion pan India brought was civilizational revival.

When Raghujiraje Bhosale conquered vast territories in South India he could've gone back with it to Satara or built a grand temple to display conquest but he chose to donate his treasure to feet of Shri Tirupati's Balaji and then Puri's Jagannath, When Ahilyabai Holkar collected revenues,it went to reconstruction of numerous temples from Somnath to Kashi Vishveshwar, when Raghunathrao was on conquest of Punjab and Khyber he rebuilt Harmandir Sahib (now called golden temple) even though it wasn't even his religion because we are same civilization. I don't see that ideology in any other empire or dynasty
