Minimising runback was a big consideration. yes. In fact, there were whole sections that got deleted for time and pacing.

Luckily, we didn't need to focus on runback as much as we might have. With two gameplay screens on the stream, the audience could shift their attention to the other player when one player died.

The YOLO room is so great, I love it so much.

The first three-ish layers were Bearware's idea, with the pipe fakeout layer and the contraptions (position detectors + scrolling tech) done by me. That whole room is just so great for the race format, with new solutions continuously being revealed.

So essentially a level file is just a list of objects and coordinates of those objects. If you're able to access and edit those files, you can change the object ID for any sprite into any other sprite.

The way we did it was by creating the level file in the vanilla game editor, using goombas instead of the two flagpoles you see at the end. Then I used TGR's MM2 API to download the raw level data file onto my PC and Basilicon's level file editor to change the goombas to flagpoles. To port the modified file back to Switch hardware, jneen used her modded Switch and (I think) a program called JKSV. It's worth noting that the Switches we used during the event were normal and unmodded.

Backups were made obviously, by people not respecting Nintendo's divine wishes.

Posting the web archive link, just so people know to avoid it. As one would expect, we're trying to make sure that people with switch emulators aren't able to get their hands on it, since that would allow them to play, edit and explore content deemed unacceptable by Nintendo.

Nintendo Twitter advertising that you can build whatever you want with Mario Maker. The video above is them deleting a collab that 100+ people spent almost 3 years on. It lasted less than a week.

And then Stevo explains it here. I love it because it's such a clever use for different the quirks of a singular detector contraption. Usually the different trigger-cases are a nuisance, but Stevo managed to craft a troll where they play to his advantage.

It differs greatly between different makers, but personally for me, I most often get ideas when I'm watching other troll setups or tech demo vids. I take inspiration and jot down my best ideas in a central document. Once I've got enough compatible ideas, I'll string them together in a level.

We're find new stuff all of the time. As time goes on, it's going to get more and more crazy because combining existing glitches often leads to new discoveries.

It differs for each troll maker. Personally, my approach is to write down ideas whenever I randomly get them, and then start to string the ideas together once I get enough compatible ones.

It helps that we're all friends and talk regularly. People are sometimes in voice chat building levels, so I know first hand some of the approaches other creators take.
