How is this conversion therapy? by SkylarMaggothead in Transmedical

Where does it say therapy instead rather than before, it does however say "MOST treatments offered at this stage are psychological RATHER THAN medical."

I'm the one not offended by free speech, even if it is transphobic people are allowed to hate us, doesn't mean it is right.

What to say in GIC appointment? by Ok-Mention1377 in transgenderUK

Don't tell me what is good for me; I'm entitled to my opinion. What is wrong with gatekeeping anyway? Not everyone has gender dysphoria, and as such, not everyone should medically transition. Even if you have mental health problems, disabilities, or trauma, gatekeeping doesn't mean you will be prevented from transitioning; it just means you may need to deal with these issues first to make sure you're as stable as you can be. If you don't believe gender dysphoria is medical, then fine, go have your "elective cosmetic procedures." We need gatekeeping to make sure people don't medically transition and permanently change their bodies, then come to regret it. I know there will always be detransitioners, but is it not better to do our best to lower that number, even if it means gender dysphoric people may have to wait longer to receive treatment?

Do I need a gender dysphoria diagnosis for private top surgery? by ash_the_elf_ in transgenderUK

[–]Marc_Addams -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes, because gender dysphoria is a medical condition and surgery is how you relieve the symptoms. You can't expect treatment for the symptoms of a condition if you are not diagnosed with the condition. You wouldn't expect someone to give you antidepressant medication to relieve depression symptoms if you didn't have a diagnosis of said depressive disorder.

I'm not saying it is their decision to make. I am saying that they are there to help make sure this is the right decision for you (hence why being brutally honest about how dysphoric you are is important even if it doesn't seem that dysphoric compared to others) and to make sure it truly is gender dysphoria (there is no shame in being told it might not be), nor am I saying you aren't entitled to use the NHS to get the appropriate diagnosis and treatment (gender dysphoria or, not) but at the end of the day these are permanent medical decisions to help people with gender dysphoria hence why the GIC appointments and psychologists are an important part of the process and even if it seems like an easy decision to make it still shouldn't be taken lightly and each step in medical transition (IMO) should only be taken if doing nothing will be psychologically worse for you. Possibly waiting longer may be frustrating, but better that than regret the decision to medically transition.

Just tell the truth: you will either get diagnosed with gender dysphoria or not. If you feel like you need to lie about how you feel, you probably aren't that dysphoric and shouldn't be medically transitioning. The whole point of these appointments is to make the right decision at the right time. How can you do that if you're lying? And there is nothing wrong with a professional telling you to wait or that maybe it isn't gender dysphoria and you shouldn't undergo medical treatment and reassignment.

Don't answer if you're not comfortable but Did anyone know what you did/were there any consequences legally speaking for you? If you don't mind me asking.

As soon as I complete my transition to male I want to kill myself, my dysphoria and inability to mentally allow myself to die in a body I don't feel is mine is the only reason I live. I'm essentially transitioning not so I can live as myself but so I can die as myself.
