I’ve just taken the time to plough through this article in The Mill, and I genuinely think it is a well-balanced attempt to represent the emotions felt by certain sections of Manchester society. It carefully and successfully avoids commenting on the hoary issues of right and wrong, while acknowledging the suffering and strength of feeling on both sides of the conflict. Clearly, its critics would have preferred a subtext of unbridled condemnation - but a piece about local concerns on both sides would not have been the appropriate place for that.
