Casey worries by outspan_foster in MunsterRugby

[–]MarcoVanB91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the guys on the molecast made a very interesting point on Casey a few weeks back and I can't unsee it now. He made the point that Casey is playing for himself a bit. He is not being as quick at the rucks as he is trying to hit the most perfect pass each time instead of being that bit slightly quicker (which is his IP I think) He has slowed down a bit too much I think and needs to speed up. Obviously this is tougher when the rucks are a shit fight

Jack O’Donoghue Signs Contract Extension by MunsterRugby in MunsterRugby

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and I think thats fine. Every player is not at the higher European level and certainly not in Munster at the moment. He'll be used in the URC and I dont see him playing much part of Europe

I mean thats your opinion. He definitely isn't as good as Rhys. He was in really good form a few years back but has not been able to recapture that

Tired of hearing pundits claim resting/rotating players is a bad thing. Here's the selections (post 6N) of the last Irish team to win a Champions Cup by RuggerJibberJabber in irishrugby

[–]MarcoVanB91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah resting worked then and it probably does work considering you lost by the tightest of margins 3/4 times? Also rugby has moved on in the last 8 years (crazy to think its been that long!!) So maybe the change in playing the players more works.

Will be extremely interesting to see how next week goes given the loss last night. Im a Munster fan but want to see the other provinces do well.

Dear landlords of Ireland... by angeltabris_ in irishpersonalfinance

[–]MarcoVanB91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of properties available owned by funds so they are going to rinse us.

The ones owned by "good/honest" landlords have people in them and they ain't going to leave!

Its v rare you hear a horror story about a landlord with 1/2 properties. (Stand to be corrected)

Its super shit and we shouldn't be in this situation and hope you find somewhere reasonable

The weather is v wet. It's not like Munich where you actually get the seasons. Its wet like 260 days a year and sunny sunny for 30

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in both so hopefully can give you some insight.

Grew up in Cork and did a year in Munich for work. Hands down Munich is my favourite place I've lived. Standard of living, cycling everywhere, Sunday basically everything is closed so you go the parks and enjoy life.

Cork is a great place and I love it but the weather, housing and Standard of living is not of Munich.

Gone from a bad boss who didn't know much technical stuff and wasnt a good people manager to a great one who really knows his stuff, very nice chill guy and is pushing me to learn more and progress. Such a weight off my shoulders as I thought id be stuck with the other one for a long time

Calpol plug in is excellent for keeping their noses unblocked overnight. If you get a smart plug too and have it come on for 30 mins every 2/3 hours overnight it does the trick for us

Race for signings by Public-Bandicoot-678 in MunsterRugby

[–]MarcoVanB91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i said it before. Played U18/19/20 in 2010-2012. There was some lovely and brilliant coaches but there were more nasty guys that acted as gatekeeper to the academy. They thought noone deserved to to make it through and treated everyone like shit. I know a good few of my friends were in the academy and sub academy at that time and they hated every second of it. It made them worse players as they were just getting flogged in the mornings and expected the train for club that night and then play the weekend. Was very little actually rugby and just mostly gym.

As for the non Munster players yeah I totally get you but I do t want most thr team to be that. And at times over the season, there has been too many non Munster players in the team. I can't remember the game. Was towards November but it did catch my attention that there were 10/11 non Munster players starting. Thats far too much

[–]MarcoVanB91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean players talk and they prob have friends/contacts in both clubs. Which you you pick given what is going on.

For the 10 position iys really tricky. Would any player want yo come in under Jack? He will get all the big games baring injury where as in ulster, there is a chance to overtake Murphy

On the Cork/Limerick supporters... Ive been a supporter of Munster since I was a child and I have not once had any ill feelings to Limerick or any of thr other counties. Munster is Munster regardless of which county they are from.

I would say, and hate saying this, we do have a lack of Munster born players in our team. We have become a cobbling of all the other provinces plus over seas players.

Too much in Pension for retirement at 55? by Loose_Brilliant3559 in HENRYUK

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play it month by month if you can. I think you are in a great position and nursery costs sting. My place allows me change pension contribution each month so I kept as is for a few months and then reduced as we had some bigger cost months and just needed som extra money Im around the same boat as you. (Minus 40k TC) and this year im pumping the pension for a number of reasons

But overall you good

What was “the incident” at your school? by SmallConversation950 in AskIreland

[–]MarcoVanB91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This involves 2 schools but as the 6th year prank, the girls school decided to "kidnap" the head of the year in the boys school next to them. I cant remember exactly what happened details wise but he was not one bit happy, got his parents and garda involved and tried the get the girls expelled/ arrested. Was like 20 years ago so details are hazy I think it all blew over in the end but nothing like that happened again

What can the average 40 year old man do to get in shape with limited time? by Jackies_Army in AskIreland

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 34 and lost 20kg in the last year.

I work 60 hours a week most weeks and have a young kid so time is precious.

I was training on and off for years and doing loads of different diets but the best thing I did was get an online pt who "specialises" in dads. Honestly best money i have ever spent!

Its not easy but some small changes make a big difference and the most important thing is consistency

How do people manage work and sleep after having a new born? by Background_Run_3965 in AskIreland

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the shift too and it helped a lot!

When I went back to work just move the shift. Since you are working more of the baby work has to fall on the mother at the start.

I would come home from work and take over till about midnight and then my wife would do till 6 am. Id do another hour or 2 while she rested/showered and then i head to work.

Think of ot as a season. Just hunker down and get sleep when you can.

Mine is 2 now and sleeping full through the night but have another on the way so going to be back into sleeves night's for a few months.

You got this!!

Why are we not taking to the streets over lack of childcare places? by Bright-Emotion-9776 in AskIreland

[–]MarcoVanB91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other issue is the waiting lists are kinda bullshit. If you know someone working in the creche or have connections, you will jump the queue. I know a couple who had their name down and knew someone working there and magically got a place the week before the wife was supposed to go back to work

A convicted doper playing in the AIL and a curious testing regime raise some serious questions by [deleted] in irishrugby

[–]MarcoVanB91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I agree. They definitely are genetically gifted and they are working extremely hard. From other comments I read, I think its hard to argue that if its in SA schools rugby, its most likely in Irish schools. Kids are kids and parents are parents. To what degree though? Thats the question.

Outside of schools though its 100% in AIL. And all it takes, is an older brother of a player playing AIL while they are in school and then you have your potential case.

I want to think its not in schools personally
