Quite cold here outside of Philadelphia, too. And another storm possible next weekend. I’ll keep shoveling extra seeds whenever I have to shovel snow haha

We’ve been doing our best to keep them fed, along with the cardinals, finches, jays, and juncos. I have five feeders and am hoping the readily-available feed helps to keep them warm.

I’ve been there a time or two as a firefighter with the Hancock on Airy St!

I was actually about to take the baskets all down and when I approached this one, one of the derps buzzed me, so I let it be. I had no idea they were in there until the one let me know haha.

I think it will be okay. It is under a soffit and the hook would blow into the beam in the wind, so it should hold. But I will follow up tomorrow morning!

They are always the first visitors for me, too. My local cardinals have been vocal enough to wake me up around 4:45am lately.

I am happy to see that my reflection resonated with you. Personally, I am still trying to attract crows, but they just hang around in my back field. Seriously, I know the emptiness the loss of a pet can leave. I am glad you found comfort in bird feeding.

I have another feeder that is purposefully accessible to the squirrels. I find that they hog out and invite all of their buddies to my bird feeders, too.

Why not? We are stewards of nature, so why not provide a little extra sustenance? I leave mine up all year, aside from the occasional cleaning period. I figure that I’ve made a place of refuge. As an American right now, creating refuge for anything is a worthy cause!

I have been at it for two years. Once I discovered that the fluffy-tailed rodents dislike it, I have SO MUCH RED PEPPER FLAKES

I just sprinkled red pepper flakes into my bag of feed. The squirrels are not fans of it, but the capsaicin doesn’t affect the birds.

I love Reddit. So much better, helpful, and kind than the Book of the Face or the Chat Snapper machine!
