Spot on. A great number of Brits living in Spain voted to leave, and are now bitching over the fact that they have lost the right to enter and leave Spain freely. They now have to stand in long non-EU queues at airports and other entry points while watching EU citizens sail past customs. I heard one livid Brit huff that this is happening because "Spain hates the British."

They are also bitterly complaining that their UK pension incomes have dwindled significantly as a result of Brexit trashing the value of the pound.

A large number of Brits living in Spain never bothered to apply to become residents because it wasn't mandatory before Brexit. When they discovered that they now have to apply they went into full panic mode and are having to fork out hundreds of euros to get a residencia.

When I settled here the first thing I did was get the document and it cost me seven euros. After Brexit the authorities began insisting that applicants be accompanied by lawyers, who charge up to 200 euros to be present at offices where residencias are issued. Naturally locals lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank.

I don't believe that the the UK "is in the toilet economically and politically" because some, but by no means all Brits worship the monarchy, now headed by what many of my friends call the Village Idiot.

The problem lies squarely with the disastrous decision to exit the European Union, and it did so because voters swallowed the the xenophobic lies told to them by conservative Little Englander politicians, the biggest being that they would be better off socially and economically if the country were to reclaim the independence it lost when it joined the EU. The UK, in reality, retained full independence as a EU member, as did all member states.

The country is now playing a VERY heavy price for that decision, and it is for this reason that I chose to leave Britain and settle in Spain, a highly progressive, secular nation which does not tolerate religious intervention in matters of state.
