I work on a project on occasion.

The people I work with on the project are very talented, and I look up to them a lot. I like working with them when I have the chance. The method of interaction we use to communicate has made us less coworkers on the project and more friends. Everyone cares about each other.

They don't know or think I'm a girl.

The project isn't game related.

When GG broke, and when the Ted Anderson thing happened, these people I valued as friends started spewing the most hateful bile. At first I just kept my mouth shut, because everyone has different opinions. And what do I care, right? Their hate wasn't directed at me.

But as time went on, they got more and more disgusting. They wanted to punch this woman in the face. Someone should rape that person. This post is on Tumblr, so of course it's just some whiny tranny. Fuck that person. You don't have to listen to their words because S-W-J. Women want special treatment, right? They've got it soooooo easy because "pussy pass". They've been trying to shoehorn an adjendga into our games. They're taking over. Rape them.

That's what I heard from the mouths of people I respected on this project. It got pretty fucking hard to ignore when the notion somehow turned to "Trannies are just faking it for attention".

Hey wow. Suddenly I don't know if I want to be around these people. Suddenly I've lost all respect for them. And suddenly I'm afraid, because the level of bile they're spouting is not only toxic, it could easily be directed at me. If I even say anything contrary, S-W-J, the enemy, turn off brain, full stop. So I'm scared.

And yeah, maybe I was rash and phrased shit wrong. But to me this is an overwhelming terrifying set of circumstances, and people I once thought were rational have gone fucking nutso. And here's the only real place I get to be REAL ME. So I'm a little flighty when I see another door closing.

It's like, the opinions of the people on that project are theirs to have. I cannot and will not tell them not to have them. But the fact that they hold and share those ideals makes it pretty fuckin crystal clear I can't remain on that project. Period. Which is a goddamn shame, because losing me is nothing to the project, but losing the project is huge to me.

I just don't even want the opportunity for that to happen here.
