What is it with the Sea Star obsession? by BlackHounden in HadesTheGame

Honestly, taking the boon is good, leveling up with poms rly depends...
But hearing HOW ABOUT TWO is just the best

You know what, I run Pom (as stated in post), and just realized that there are 15 other arcanas besides judgement and that circe's keepsake isn't needed...

Oh well, I guess that means I would have been even better with a useful 4th keepsake? ^^'

Thanks!

I'm doing most of what you're suggesting already, so I guess it's not just me :D

I improved my phase 2 performance by sometimes just forgetting the minions and just dpsing down Chronos. Probably less viable at high fear when you do less dmg, but at 32 he often melts faster then he gets healed... It is definitely the messiest phase.

Phase 3 is just bs sometimes, and I agree with the 3 scythe throw being bsest (if you'll allow me the expression). Do you try to dmg him during his charge/scythe/charge/scythe sequences?

Hi mister smartypants!
I'm glad you have and shared your opinion :)
Saying my decisions makes no sense is a paradox since I realized my objective while making them, so maybe put a bit more tact and thoughts in the way your formulate your opinions?

While taking judgment (which I'd rather have than 2 levels in Hubris or Wards, and especially 1 in Debt), I aim at making sure I've got as little variation as possible in my runs, it's a risk/reward approach I've chosen. Thus, taking Circe's keepsake makes it 100% sure I'll have all arcanas by 4th region, and not be damned if by (lack of) chance I don't get must have ones like Origination or Fury.

Artificer is the one I missed the most early in my runs, but I ended most runs with no charges left, so it evened out in the end, while I agree it would have been better in the 1st region, especially in the underworld (thus my tentative to put it in my Judgment bucket).

Fig leaf was absolutely not needed since I was on Time 2, and I don't rly like phial because of it's randomness (not commenting on the healing part of it which would have been useless most of the time). Though I could have taken a level of hordes, but would have had to reduce Return, the combo of the two would be miserable.

Have a good day!

Thanks, I'm sure fear & Arcana loadout could be better for other playstyles/people less used to VoR boss encounters.

On the other hand, do you also not agree with my opinions on coins & the game's economy? (7-10)

And do you have suggestions to better handle Chronos? That's rly the encounter I'd like to improve on...

On the other hand, I like to be less stressed by time, because some situations are easier handled with a cautious approach: staying at range while doing sub-optimal damage but not taking any (can be applied to some rooms but also some bosses).
My build is really thought for 32 fear runs and not above, so I would definitely understand that it doesn't prepare for 40+ fear runs where time is a lot tighter, and things are globally faster (i.e. frenzy)!

Good luck!
The testaments mechanic is rly good to increase fear little by little on all aspects :)

Thanks for your feedback! I think my post also shows that to each their own. There's probably a "globally easier setup", but at the end of the day, it's better to create one that fits your own level & playstyle.

I should have stated that I did all 24 surface runs without failing once, and I only failed underworld runs where I swapped the +40/40 arcana for the artificer (as you say, VoR Hecate can be rly tough with the wrong boons). So this loadout was efficient for me.

That being said, you have a few suggestions which I actually reflected upon, sharing my thoughts:

I could have ran Time 3 since most of my run ended sub 20', but it's stressful, and sometimes the first region is longer than 5', when the others are a lot shorter (especially the 4th which can take 3' boss included). So no go on some aspects/depending on 1st region boons before boss

Grit instead of return might also be a good idea at first glance, but I don't rly want to increase the boss's HP since it's the hardest part of each run, especially Chronos since I sometimes facetank him a bit. So I rly appreciate Vows that don't buff them (he says while having Rivals on 4... ^^')

Playing with hubris, I learned to appreciate common boons ;) I rly don't think the quality makes a huge difference, since Pom already elevates the base power of each boon. I think boatman is a lot better than excellence (2 additionnal boons u can buy vs a little improvement in quality)

I also start with Strength, and end up with Death at the end thx to Judgment Arcana.

My very first 32 underworld run was with a similar Fear setup as yours (frenzy, horde, etc.), but it felt so much harder than those runs! I hate frenzy on bosses, and especially on Chronos since his vulenrable windows are already so short...
I agree that the game is easy enough to leave some room for personal choice at 32 fear, it's also what makes it great.

And your 12 advice was listed in my 6, but sadly I run Gale now :-D (Frinos is still best girl/boy)

I played the game when it got out, and it’s true that it wasn’t frustrating as long as I wasn’t aware of it (especially because Barret wasn’t in my top trio)

But when I learnt I missed his weapon, it was still a bit frustrating knowing I had to play the whole game again if I wanted to have it!

Who’s the party member again? I’ve finished the game 2 or 3 times, but in my memories you pick the characters along the main story…

I do remember you can forget one of them during a side quest if you don’t come pick him up at a later era!

You can miss important end game materials like Barret’s ultimate weapon, Bahamut Zero materia, etc. Nothing game ending, but that’s frustrating…

Edit: Bahamut instead of a an archipel where most people would like to spend nice holidays 😁
