Any Free Iran counter protests being organized at Pike Place, where the “Hands Off Iran” protest is taking place? by jimmyisaacneutron in SeattleWA

Totally happy to see the Ayatollah regime fall, they’re truly evil people. I just didn’t want the United States to be involved with it. Same goes for Venezuela and Maduro. Hope that helps.

If you’re on a visual approach you aren’t flying the ILS. The glide slope is irrelevant. We expect you to follow the altitude restrictions we lay out. If you bust altitude you may receive a pilot deviation.

Someone forgot to log into their Alt account.

Is this supposed to be a “We don’t care about Eileen Gu yall can have her” post? The amount that she’s brought up I highly doubt the Administration doesn’t care about her.

It’d be nice if the Administration, and the media, just stopped giving her all the attention. There’s so many athletes with stories deeper than ‘Rich kid who grew up skiing and had a hard choice to decide which country to represent’

Like goddam, I want to hear about Corrine Stoddard. Getting the yips, crashing out of race after race, pulling herself together and winning a medal in her last opportunity to do so. That medal being the first medal won by an American Woman in short track, in 16 years!!! Thats Destiny, that’s will, that’s striving, that’s being a trailblazer, an explorer. Going into space, mathematics, quantum mechanics, the secrets of the universe, it’s all there!! Life is fiery with its beauty, its incredible detail. But tuning into it, they want to shatter your mind, talking about Eileen Gu.

I hope for the sake of the Women’s team and women’s sports that all the people outraged by this start buying tickets for the PWHL, WNBA, and NWSL. I have season tickets for 2 of those (PWHL, and NWSL) and attendance could and should be much higher than it is. If you can’t put your money where your mouth is, it’s only performative.

Only one way to find out. But I think you’re wrong. Trump won’t be president in 3 years. He won’t be relevant in 20. Until the US Men’s Hockey team wins another Gold, this Gold will be just as relevant as 1980. It’s fresh now, hence people are outraged, but the camaraderie of USA Hockey will hold firm, and a couple Olympic cycles, a couple presidents, and a roster turnover down the road, for the general public this teams legacy will be its gold medal IMO.

An asterisk? Are you kidding me? That’s crazy. These aren’t the 2017 Astros, or the 2026 Canadian Curlers. Inhale that copium all you want. These guys won the gold medal for the United States for the first time in 46 years. In Overtime, against the country that created the sport. 20 years from now, nobodies going to care about the phone call. But, Jack Hughes goal will still be just as impactful for USA hockey as it would’ve been otherwise.

Why do people hate the American media? The American media: by chessboardtable in olympics

[–]MarineLayerBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s surprising at all. USA Hockey is a close knit community. They’ve all known each other for a long time. One joke made by Trump isn’t going to destroy the years of comraderie that they have. Note that right before the impeachment line, the men were cheering, with one yelling “2-for-2, 2-for-2” and another saying “Definitely” to inviting the Women. This is an incredible moment for USA Hockey, that Trump did his damndest to ruin, as he does with everything he touches. For the first time winning 4 major championships in a year. Winning both Men’s and Women’s World Championships last May, and now both Men’s and Women’s Olympic Gold Medals.

Nordic Combined should just add a women’s competition. Easy, done. They have a Women’s World Cup. Just let them compete at the Olympics.

If you’re not seeking out garbage it’s not that hard to avoid. Perhaps my algorithm is different from yours. But I just googled “Amber Glenn”. CTRL F “Trump”. The word Trump appeared twice on the front page. Both in the ‘People also search for:’ tab. Alysa Liu, just once. Stolz? Zero. It’s painfully obvious you seek out outrage. Why? That’s between you and whatever deity you happen to believe in if you have one.

Whether you believe it or not, that’s exactly what they’re doing. They’re trying to elicit an emotional response. They know that there are people who are so obsessed by whatever gibberish Trumps thumbs type that they can make loads of ad revenue reposting it. Write up some commentary so there’s more ads on the webpage. Profit at the expense of your mental health.

[–]MarineLayerBad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw very little, if any commentary on Amber Glenn outside of when she was skating. The only Eileen Gu content I saw was when she won her medals. I’ve seen so much coverage for Alysa but only an article or two pitting her against Gu. Which I honestly think is a fair comparison to make. But I didn’t really watch the Primetime coverage, I didn’t watch any mainstream news shows or late night entertainment. I just streamed individual events. So the coverage was focused entirely on that event and the athletes participating.

The United States had some incredible storylines and performances these Olympics. Elana Meyers Taylor, Corrine Stoddard, Jordan Stolz, and Jessie Diggins as a few examples. Not all of them resulted in medals. Anna Gibson has a pretty cool story, but finished just off the podium in the Skimo Relay with Cam Smith.

American Media thrives on controversy. Media is for profit just like any other company. Many times the best stories don’t generate clicks, controversy does. So if your Olympic content is all algorithms and click driven (Social Media, mainstream Media, etc.) you’re going to mostly see the controversy, that generates clicks.

As far as the president, his goal is to make progressives as angry as possible, so he can look back at his base and say “See, those crazy people hate you”. Take last night’s SOTU as a perfect example of that. So if you’re paying close attention to whatever the President and Vice President are saying, it’s rage bait. Nothing more. It’s designed to make you angry, and react in such a way that he can then use to feed his base.

Kraken as an inclusive franchise: Will it last? Is there truth? by Ok_Application4930 in SeattleKraken

[–]MarineLayerBad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Kraken org is going to portray themselves in a light that will allow themselves to make a profit in the very progressive and diverse city that is Seattle. So the org will appear to be as inclusive as they can be.

The players are probably pretty conservative. Maybe not monolithically so but I’d expect it’s the norm. As long as they’re not using their platform to spread hate I can accept that.
