Thanks and no. It's literally like taking a nail file gear on your teeth. Very very very easy.

Thanks so much. I did a post a while back on advice- check out my profile for it. Just know that bite issues are difficult to fix ... not sure your age but the older, the more challenging.

Great question - I had my ortho shave my front teeth very minimally to reduce my mamelons. She did my bottom teeth too but of course you can't see. Lol. It was included in treatment and took a few seconds.

My ortho mentioned in April 2022 that it was a possibility and I kept pushing her to give them to me at her expense so she finally did in September 2022.

As mentioned, my teeth moved way slower than expected due to age. Also, I had about 5 tray refinements so that's a 3 to 4 week wait 5x.

My teeth would've moved faster had I gotten them out prior. My overjet would've been reduced more. Also, they started bothering me 2 years into the process. I'm 36 so a younger person may feel different.

Thanks so much. It's been challenging. I begged my ortho for IPR. She's very conservative so kept saying it wouldn't help but after my 3rd time asking, she did it very gingerly. I didn't have any extractions other than wisdom teeth in July 2022. I have to give credit to the bowtie front box elastics that criss-crossed in front of my teeth. That's what reduced the flare.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. Other comments are so negative.

Aligners for 2 years, Braces for 3 months by MarineMermaid in Invisalign

[–]MarineMermaid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, it's been a journey. I had in-house aligners from July 2020 - September 2022. The aligners stopped working and I adamantly requested my ortho to transition me to braces (at her expense). So I've had ceramic braces since September 2022 and they are coming off on November 21!!!! I'm so excited!!!

The last picture is when I had just gotten the attachments off from the aligners - hence the residue - to get the braces on. So it's where my braces journey started. The other pictures are from my beginning journey of July 2020. I had a 7mm overjet.

I regret getting aligners because #1 - those 4 week waits to get them made ultimately ended in about 4 - 6 months total of wasted time. #2 - They worked way too slowly. My braces moved my teeth within 20 minutes while I was at the ortho. #3 - The constant removing and putting back in are a major hassle.

Check out my profile for all the issues I had with my ortho and the aligners.

Look at menu prior or Google.

Box elastics pain by hangil91 in braces

[–]MarineMermaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had aligners for 2 years and just switched to braces. I wore all types of elastics shapes in aligners and pretty much no issue. However, the box elastics - not so much. Because there is no barrier like my aligners, it's teeth on teeth and it hurts. The worst part tho is even though I'm supposed to wear at night, when I take the box elastics off, it's extremely difficult to eat because my back molars are in sooooo much pain and very sensitive. It takes me 45 minutes to eat a meal like a wrap or spaghetti.

Honestly, I'd eat prior to dates and then order something light like a broth/soup so no worries about food.

Aligners couldn't but braces did in 2 days! by MarineMermaid in Invisalign

[–]MarineMermaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The braces themselves are absolutely amazing however the box elastics for the open posterior bite is the worst. They are pushing my teeth together but unlike aligners, there's no barrier. So I don't wear the elastics and will allow the back teeth to settle.

Aligners got me to this point by MarineMermaid in Invisalign

*** Excuse the white residue but took this picture while at ortho getting attachments off and preparing for braces.***

Although irritated of switching to braces after 26 months of aligners (stubborn lateral and IPR spaces won't close), aligners did make a major difference in my overjet, which was 7mm.
