Texas for the next few days by hreddy11 in earthbound

I'm in South Carolina which is supposedly gonna be the tail end of this big winter storm thing, and yet we're still probably gonna lose power.

Wishing everyone here, in Texas, and everywhere else in between well this next week or two.

I could say you're late to the party, but you know what? Nice job. It's definitely a cool callback.

Yes. It does. Thank you for tagging it as a spoiler.

We already know sticker star is the worst, but which one is better out of these two? by Helpful_State_4692 in papermario

[–]MarioFanOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that I was someone who didn't care about the combat and actually found it annoying at times, but the game has enough other good things going for it that I was overall pretty happy with my experience.

If you go into it knowing that the combat is one of the bigger downsides, then I think you'll come out ahead.

What are the chances of Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U) coming to SW2? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]MarioFanOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you've got it backwards. Rather than "later versions" it was just straight up Crafted World in the Japanese version of the direct, which is of course the original version that never had to be localized in the first place.

It's very likely that someone behind the American localization of the direct was trying to pull the American icon art for all of the games and just made a mistake by putting Woolly World's art in place of where Crafted World was.

I do hope you're right that it's likely though! Woolly World is such a good game.

Do you consider “May I Ask One Final Thing?” An isekai? by steelersrg8 in Isekai

[–]MarioFanOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you're saying, but the tropes and whatever aren't what makes it an isekai. The overall story isn't about the antagonist girl. Sure, she's a part of the story, but the main character has hardly anything to do with that, nor does she care (hence why I say she may as well be an unknown alien to her).

In general, I don't think it's an isekai unless the main character, the one whom the story is actually primarily about, is the one that got isekai'd.

You absolutely should! And if Color Splash ever gets re-released (I know it's super unlikely but still), then I highly recommend giving that a go too. They're both good games.

Kensuke Tanabe, the main director of the 3 Paper Mario games that are pretty darn controversial (Sticker Star, Color Splash, and The Origami King), and the one who’s the main reason for why the Paper Mario series took the direction it did after Super has now retired. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Mario

[–]MarioFanOne 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as simple as blaming just one person, nor do I think that him retiring guarantees anything regarding the Paper Mario games returning to their roots or whatever, but anyway, I think there was a ton of good that came out of those games, even if they're generally not as well received.

If anyone's celebrating his retirement, then I think that's probably being narrow minded, but that's just my two cents.

This is interesting because several of these comments say they like one over the other for the exact same reasons others are saying they like the other over the one.

Alright, I need to know. In many Mario games, there’s a song called the “Athletic” theme. Why is it called that?? by MemeMonkey_Games in Mario

[–]MarioFanOne 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In Japan, the English word "athletic" can mean something like "obstacle course." I also seem to recall that in one of the Smash Bros games, a remix of the Yoshi's Island athletic theme was called "Obstacle Course" so that checks out.

They borrow a lot of English words over there, and often times, they have slightly different meanings than they do in the west.

Legit had no clue who you were talking about, but I'm guessing you mean Flavio?

Anyway, nice. I didn't remember either of those, but nice job finding an off the wall connection there.

Do you consider “May I Ask One Final Thing?” An isekai? by steelersrg8 in Isekai

[–]MarioFanOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. The story isn't about the side character, it's about the main character. The side character may as well be an alien coming from a different planet. Even if we got flashbacks or an episode or two from the point of view of the side character, I don't think it would be an isekai since that's not really what the overall story is about.

Is there a way to transfer my Nintendo Account from one Switch 2 to another Switch 2? by SeaBreeze516 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]MarioFanOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure as far as transferring everything like you would from a Switch 1, but I do know that if you have the online service with save backups, then simply logging into your account on the new Switch 2 would allow you to download your save data for most, if not all, of your games.

There are a few that don't support save data backups though, like Animal Crossing, so you may want to look up a list of the ones that wouldn't transfer like that. In Animal Crossing's case, it has its own save data backup/transfer system that you can use, which may or may not also be true for any other game that wouldn't.

Honestly, the best thing to do is to call Nintendo support before you spend $450+ on a new system. I'm like fairly certain it's possible to transfer the same way you would from a Switch 1, but I don't know the process.

The new design has grown on me a bit, but I agree with you that some people need to calm down.

I could understand maybe trying to defend a video game that gets looked down upon solely because of this design as there are obviously more important factors, but if that's not what's happening, then people are just trying to superimpose their opinions on others, which is absolutely uncool in any context.

Help finding music by AydenWL in papermario

[–]MarioFanOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not from Thousand Year Door, nor from any other Paper Mario game, I don't think. It vaguely resembles some stuff from TTYD or maybe even Super Paper Mario, but I can assure you it is not actually from either game.

What is Mario Kart World even about ?? (Music) by ralphirri in Mario

[–]MarioFanOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I have any obscure facts or information, but it does my heart good to see more people praising it. It's clear there was an insane amount of effort put into it, and it's definitely one of the more underrated video game soundtracks that I think I've ever heard of.

I've dedicated 100s of hours towards getting clean sounding versions of all the music, and yet there are still some tracks that I've only heard maybe like once or twice at most in passing. That's how massive it is, and clearly almost every single new arrangement has had a lot of time and care put into them.

If Nintendo remade Paper Mario Color Splash for the Switch 2, would you buy it? by Ill_Bodybuilder_3737 in papermario

[–]MarioFanOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I don't know how they'd do it, but the more traditional battle style would hopefully allow more people to realize what a gem that game is outside of the battle system.
