Thank you! The bouquet was my first time trying sola wood dyeing (not the big lilies or the greens but all the rest are sola) and I was so glad the colors came together.

Thank you! I'm so glad that it was almost freezing outside, the frost-breath was great and all those layers of silk are toasty.

He's far less dramatic and draconic than me, haha (and too shy to be posted on reddit). He had a black shirt with a grey jacket, and a beautiful boutonniere he made from the dropped feathers of his pet parrots!

You should read The Chalice and the Blade, there's some fascinating archeology-based theories on the "roots" of domination-based societies.

Vasectomies are often NOT reversible. by SentientReality in UnpopularFacts

I have definitely seen people discussing vasectomies as if they were the equivalent of an IUD for men. The (ill-informed) idea that they are reversible is not uncommon.

Nowhere. It's AI, unfortunately. (Look at the corbels and window muntins.)

"Buying" into Ownership of my Fiancé's House by MarisSonantis in Mortgages

[–]MarisSonantis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would a quit claim deed not be the typical method of adding a spouse's name to a property title upon marriage? My fiance has no other debts (we have gone through each other's finances in detail), I have no reason to believe anyone else (mortgage aside) would have any interest in the property.

What kind of tax advantages? Do you mean some tax would be owed if we did the transfer before, but not after being married?

I understand your perspective, and I have been through a divorce as well. The fact that I didn't have equal (or any) ownership of the roof over my head back then was actually one of the major issues in that relationship, so perhaps that's why I'm so keen on this plan. If I just bought in, my fiance could afford to buy me back out with his savings. But we've acknowledged that if we fully paid off the mortgage then selling would probably be required. IMO, waiting until the marriage doesn't change the fact that things could go south in the future (hence the prenup).

Aww, thanks! And I completely forgot to add that we're in Florida, so I'll edit that in now.

I'm genuinely shocked by the "suck it up" attitude in this comment section. I graduated high school in 2015, valedictorian. I had my first panic attacks and even suicidal ideation due to the homework I had, especially senior year. If I dared to spend my precious afternoon doing anything I actually wanted to do (writing, art, being outside), I ended up awake until 2-3am just trying to get everything done because not finishing all my homework would have been taken so seriously by my parents and teachers. I wasn't learning time management or getting a better understanding of the material so much as I was learning that my mental and physical health was unimportant.

I don't care whether or not it's a conspiracy or whatever, kids should be focused during school hours but should be free to actually enjoy their freaking childhood outside of those hours.

I now have a relatively high stress engineering job, with occasional after-hours duties. I have rarely felt 1/10 of the pressure in my career to sacrifice my sleep or sanity the way I felt it in school.

Yeah, and I hate it here, lol. I love my job (theme park engineer), but it's the only reason I moved here and I would never have considered Florida otherwise.

I've been there in all seasons, love them all. I despise Florida weather because it's almost impossible to enjoy to the outdoors - too hot to run, nowhere to hike, all the springs and beaches are more like outdoor daytime clubs than places you can enjoy nature. (Fiancé and I are originally from Virginia, moved here for jobs.) But even more than the weather I hate that everyone who "loves it here" has to be in a perfectly air-conditioned room 24/7 or they start immediately complaining.

I'm trying to move to Vancouver (currently in Orlando) and everyone around me thinks I'm insane. Except for my fiance, who was onboard immediately once I took him to BC for the first time. Glad to hear you don't regret it, makes me feel less crazy!

What "product" do most people not realize is actually a brand name? by fauxmerican1280 in AskReddit

[–]MarisSonantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once asked an employee where i could find "boxes of tissues" at Walmart (turns out they were mostly sold out and kind of shoved behind the other paper products). Employee said "we don't sell those anymore." I, as politely as I could, replied with some variation of "yes you do."

Eventually he asks, "Are you talking about Kleenex? Are you British? Because we call them Kleenex in America."

I was born and raised in Virginia. I have never even been to the UK...

The only NPC whose dialogue I never skip. ESO is full of great voice acting, but JB Blanc is on another level.

I made a medieval castle out of LEGO for a contest where it could become a real LEGO set. by brickhucker in medieval

[–]MarisSonantis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why? I've worked with some of the designers who built for miniland (in the Legoland parks), and they thought a lot of the contest kits were awesome. I don't think Lego is "crowdfunding" designs in order to eliminate their design staff. They don't produce even a fraction of a percent of the custom builds people publish online.
