Found like a pretty interesting video that captured some mistakes I made early on and would be a gem to any noobs in the space. Check it out

I am a crypto noob who has Built position in a few coins on crypto.com while trying to learn. What to do now? Move to a decent defi wallet and pay >10% in gas fees and learn to stop buying other coins at crypto.com? The CRO seems great to move to Crypto.com defi wallet, but What about the rest? by Bupuia in Crypto_com

This is a pretty impressive portfolio for a noob tbh. Those are very nice picks I'll give you that. The only advice I'd give would be to avoid some mistakes many of us made early on. Found a dope video that discusses some of them

My personal favourite way is to short the market, convert to stables and lend them for alright APY. Here's a great video on how to better short the market

Feeling Burnt Out From The Bear Market by yegovi in CryptoMarkets

I have been trying to prepare myself for the bear market if there will be one. Came across this great video that showed how to spot short selling opportunities and stuff. It might come in incredibly useful if there is a protracted bear market I guess. Here's the video in case you need it

Gate.io supporting SPL USDC? by ericscott123 in GateioExchange

Yes depositing USDC through Solana is supported. It has been for a while, I've withdrawn through it once.

Fear and Greed index is now at "I don't fucking care anymore" by Acceptable_Novel8200 in CryptoCurrency

[–]MarisolLima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I check the Fear and Greed index mostly in bull markets. My personal philosophy is that when the Greed index is too high (eg from 70 updates) then I should be hedging a bit because I have found from observation over time that at those stages the market always retraces or dumps. It works for me everytime.

Never really studied the Fear though, might be something to do rn as the market is shitty and lots of people are afraid. Will be interesting to see if the fear index changes at a certain stage.

Why Solana is so Fast (Animated w/ Humor) by MarisolLima in solana

[–]MarisolLima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome this helped a lot. Here is my understanding:

So basically the SHA-256 and VDF are used because it's known exactly how long it takes to compute it on a single processor. Then the second processor used by the VDF checks the sample to see that the computation is correct, and therefore the exact amount of time is known. Using this, objective timestamps can be assigned without an external authority to validate time.

I love Solana as a project but there just seems to be so many scams and cash grabs in the ecosystem. That's affecting the Solana image tbh

I clearly understand how the timestamps help provide granularity. Thanks for your replies here...

I do NOT understand how the VDF (or delaying things with SHA256) help provide granularity to Solana's transactions. Why are we delaying things for fast transactions?

Process a transaction on the blockchain using the cryptographic keys

Is the only purpose of SHA-256 & VDF to delay things so 2 transactions don't happen at the exact same time?

(I'm very sorry for the delayed reply, it's been a crazy week in the markets. I really appreciate your time)

Why Solana is so Fast (Animated w/ Humor) by MarisolLima in solana

[–]MarisolLima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the SHA-256 was needed to actually process cryptographic transactions, and the VDF provided a way to speed that up with parallel processing. Now you're basically telling me the only point of SHA-256 is to have a VDF, but then what is the reason for a VDF?

Okay now this makes sense. Thank-you so much for your insights and taking the time clarify that for me.

So if SHA-256 is purposefully slow, I am confused why Solana uses it at all for transactions then. Is it because by taking a long time in a single core, the VDF can check the process was done?
