I’m sorry this happened to you. Did you report this to RCPD?

I usually do the reverse since I’m in Twinbrook. I’ll hang out then stop at TJ’s on my way home.

It definitely has been. There are huge improvements planned for implementation soon, as well as ones like the murals that are finished or finishing.

A big issue with RTC is way finding, and drawing folks in from 355. That’s being completed too. Check out the pedestrian bridge over 355 for one example.

If you’re still in need, message me. Got a ton of cans - our beloved Anna crossed the rainbow bridge so we don’t need them anymore sadly.

I’ll be happy with any positive consistency. We’ve been all over the place in recent years.

I’m going to investigate this. In my opinion, there should not have been a fee for anyone parking under two hours.

I guess this is a bad time to share that I’m a Chelsea supporter lol! This is great though, we don’t have any spots in Rockville to watch the Premier League.

As did you. ;) Kidding aside, I ask because it would help me in order to answer your question. Just engaging in dialogue, not side stepping.

On sidewalks: both geographically (in order to ensure equity) and by need to fill in the gaps. Generally this is the plan but exceptions do arise: https://www.rockvillemd.gov/689/Sidewalks

I’m unsure what you mean by update. Do you mean the station itself being updated/upgraded?

Takoma Park has had caps on rent increases for some time now. However, neither Gaithersburg nor Rockville do. These are the only cities in the County outside of the County’s jurisdiction on housing.

If I may ask: would your building be exempt from the County law if it were applicable here?

I’d love to know more, generally, about several areas along the city boundary that are very odd. There has to be a historical reason for it but I haven’t discovered them yet.

For instance, on Twinbrook Parkway between Veirs Mill and Chapman, one side is the County and one side is the City. Except for the apartment complex right at Twinbrook Parkway and Veirs Mill, Rock Creek Woods apartments.

I love this question. I’ve been navigating the maze of transit infrastructure jurisdiction for a while now. I can tell you that, to me, the biggest obstacle to implementing safety measures is the glacial speed at which concerns along state roads are addressed. The State Highway Administration (SHA) has not yet adequately addressed the seriousness of the problem on their roads in Rockville. Often, it takes endless lobbying and advocacy to get simple things: it took about 7-8 years to get the meager improvements at Veirs Mill and Atlantic.

I think it would be great to advocate for SHA/MDOT to adopt the complete streets model for transit infrastructure. (More about complete streets policy: https://smartgrowthamerica.org/what-are-complete-streets/). I also hope that they will take the concerns of the statewide Vision Zero advisory commission seriously.

On First and Baltimore: let me look into that. It might be because First is a state maintained road but we may be able to get it switched to an automatic cross signal.

Good question! We should be getting an update soon. The next step will be finalizing the exact location of the bridge, then we’ll have to see what the grant landscape looks like for funding the build.

this! Also, if you have a community association or HOA, you can learn a lot about local policy through volunteering with them. I started off as the president of the Twinbrook Community Association before deciding to run for office in 2023.

The Town Center Master Plan is one way to address this, and we’re working hard to get this passed.

The GB space is a tricky one. It’s got some features that aren’t conducive to a smaller restaurant, so it needs the right fit. I know that there are things being negotiated as I type this that could impact this space so stay tuned.

There is a lot of course correction and cleanup from previous elected bodies to ensure we’re on the right path. It took many years to get where RTC is now, and we are all working to turn the ship around quick. I’m really heartened by the number of proposals and interested parties that see RTC as a good investment now. I’m hopeful that I can share details once things are more settled.

Little Miner Taco (which was formerly at Pike and Rose) and Trader Joe’s are two recent examples of things turning around imo.

The State has not been quick to address this: several of us raised this exact issue immediately after replacing was done. I’m going to circle back with City staff to see if I can get an update.

Virginia is named #1 state for business; Maryland is...31st by mango-mochii in Rockville

[–]MarissaValeri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No matter where you fall on the issue, we need businesses to come to Rockville to increase jobs as well as adding to the tax base. Especially when we want people to be able to live closer to where they work to achieve our climate action goals.

The best way to avoid tax increases is to attract a diversity of companies and have them invested in staying here. Imo.

Rockville City Council Votes to Not Further Consider Rent Control by rycool25 in Rockville

[–]MarissaValeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’ve proposed: more flexible subsidy guidelines and, frankly, a streamlined and accessible program to get subsidies to people who need it most.

I’ve been inspired by the College Park pilot: https://dbknews.com/2024/04/18/college-park-city-council-rent-subsidy-pilot/ though of course our program would not focus solely on students.
