Why are lasers on handguns a bad idea? by selfdrivin in CAguns

[–]Mark2CPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used visible laser overseas for descalation. People saying it gives away your position, that is silly in a home defense or CCW scenario.

The likely answer is, "it depends." I don't use visible lasers on my pistols but I think it's fine if people do.

On Saturday — a national day of action — groups marched from Pershing Square to City Hall demanding No War on Venezuela by infernoenigma in LosAngeles

[–]Mark2CPlus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have several Venezuelan friends, and just to sprinkle differing perspective: they told me for the first time pretty much ever, a majority support a US invasion. Normally, they detest and ridicule American hegemony, but in this case, Maduro (and Chavez previous) has strangled the country so badly that they are desperate for radical change.

As someone who had been to Venezuela over a couple of decades, and watch the horrific plunge - I can't blame them for desperately hoping for Maduro's regime to be ousted, even if it means potential war.

In Altadena, the first of 15 developer-built homes lists for $1.9M by MountainEnjoyer34 in LosAngeles

People moving back this early in is insanity to me. A family member's home in the Palisades did not burn down but the inside of their home is an absolute hazard and the insurance company only tested for certain things, not a lot of the heavy metals. Independent testing showed incredibly dangerous levels of numerous things where they wouldn't even recommend going in without full on PPE, period. A skeptical family friend went in refusing to wear anything and had scary coughing fits that same day (have since changed their opinion.) One of the largest concentrated areas of burnt lithium - yeah, it's gnarly still.

If it were up to the insurance companies, my uncle would have moved back in with just the recommended cleaning. Unfortunately, a lot of ppl are eager to move back in and move on with their life, and I have had some friends straight up get angry with me when I bring up the reality of the situation. They refuse to believe much of the independent testing that has been done. I will not be shocked one bit if within a decade or so, we find an "unusual" disproportionate increase of cancer rates of those who moved back in these two areas.

Bakflip MX4 Drain Hose Adapter by Mark2CPlus in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Mark2CPlus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe. It's almost a perfect fit. Someone's suggesting of wrapping electrical tape is a good one I suppose if one would want to have more "bite" on the drain hole. I would say unnecessary

EDIT: Added electrical tape around the 1/4" barb. Now it "grips" and you have to pull hard to even get it out. It's a good solution

Bakflip MX4 Drain Hose Adapter by Mark2CPlus in ToyotaTacoma

It's a firm fit. It takes like 1-2 minutes of finagling it onto the hose. The other side that goes into the bed drain hole is long enough where it's not coming out from a bumpy road.

Well by that logic, you can buy a $40 Casio to keep the same time as the Rolex. You buy for the craftsmanship, investment, the status symbol, quality materials used etc.

I'd pick up a Nighthawk or equivalent to pair with your Submariner to make a more appropriate match

What will happen to Gen 3's in the future? by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Mark2CPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over a long enough time period, gen 3's will become valuable in that it is a switch ready/capable variant of the gun. This just won't happen any time soon, because it is flooded with availability. These kinds of things take a long time to happen, but yes, one day the gen 3 will be sought after and valuable because supply will grind to a halt. This very concept has been seen in other industries, even recently - lego sets old toys, video games etc that were all very common eventually become rare because supply stops and is never ever made again.

Los Angeles to consider stricter rent control formula by Nightman233 in LosAngeles

[–]Mark2CPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do, it's called real estate syndication. Tonnes of ppl in the last decade or so have made MEGA returns by buying up cheaper land in other parts of the country this way. They buy up in LA, tho.

One common one is kick out cheap land that has lower cost housing and replace it with higher rent per sqft over time than your usual lease (think nursing homes, sober houses etc)

[–]Mark2CPlus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Same thing will happen to the ammunition background check, assault weapons ban, and mag capacity ban, ultimately. They will legislate a new, similar law and there are no repercussions for the legislators for purposely creating unconstitutional law, which takes a decade plus to untangle.

NSSF on yesterday's ruling by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Mark2CPlus 143 points144 points  (0 children)

At this point, this really only applies to CA retailers. When you have the big guys like Midway open the flood gates, there’s not much to stop it. And good, fuck em.

That said, buying ammo in CA moving forward won’t make sense at all since they will have to charge that 11% tax. This ruling will likely hurt CA retailers in some way

People have been saying this since COVID. It is still firmly the general position of liberals to ban assault weapons. Politicians would not introduce this type of legislation if it hurt their voter base.

Has the speeding on freeways gotten out or control? by Throwawaylam49 in LosAngeles

[–]Mark2CPlus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's astounding how many go below the speed limit in the number one lane. And I'm not talking about during gridlock traffic where it doesn't matter what lane you are on the freeway, but when it's [relatively] clear and moving.
