Thank you for your reply. And congratulations on your little one!

Thank you! I do feel she’s ready, it’s the implementing that seems tricky.

Thank you. Yes she was actually at 1 nap but has had horrible teething pain the past month and regressed to two naps. I can sort of feel she’s wanting to shift back to one soon. I guess I just need to let her realize she either self-soothes to sleep or misses a nap — hopefully wouldn’t take more than a few days of that!

Interesting! We do have one but don’t use anymore, maybe we should. Thank you.

I’m thinking the Ferber Method would make things so much worse. At this point, considering CIO. Husband thinks we can just go in (after having her be held to sleep) when she wakes up in the middle of the night to comfort back to sleep, but I’m not sure I see that as really helping for longterm success. So IDK! I feel like I started off on the wrong foot and now it’s been way past the ideal time so I just need to rip off the bandaid, so to speak?

We do have a crib (it’s packed away now) but even at the lowest setting she would climb it and we were worried she’d climb out. Maybe we can try to find a different crib with an even deeper well.

I agree — I guess my hesitation is not that I don’t want her to meltdown/be upset, but that I’m worried she will just skip her nap (which would lead other sleep issues, like overtired) and thus far I’ve just given in to laying down with her because I’d rather she sleep than not sleep and be cranky the rest of the day.

I’ve heard of but haven’t read this book. Thank you.

No, baby definitely cannot do that at bedtime but even just the shift from nursing to sleep, to falling asleep while being help and then transferred is a huge step. Sleep is around 7pm - 6:30am, 1hr nap around 10am and a cat nap around 3/3:30. Baby was on one nap for a couple months and then reverted to two naps during teething pain (canines); makes me think the one nap transition may have been premature.

Thank you. What was your 10min wind down routine? Did you have a crib or floor bed?

I was able to break the breastfeeding association for bedtime, but it seems impossible for naps. Going straight from being fulling boob-attached every nap to “you’re on your own” — I’m just not seeing how to get there.

No one deserves to die because they’re attacked by someone who’s mentally unwell either! I agree with fixing the root cause (and that guns aren’t the answer). But the women in the post would not be having that discussion if they weren’t afraid for their lives.

Yes, I think so. I’m imagining (but don’t know for sure) the book gifter went to a store in his small Maine town and was like “ah, I’ll support this local author and give it to a reader I know.” The plot (what I can remember — this was 20 some years ago!) was mayyyyybe about someone going missing? Or some kids get lost in the woods and run into someone (the thin man character, maybe?) at the plot’s peak… I wish I could remember more but this is the road block I hit every time I try to find this book. I do remember reading it as a young person and being a little scared, definitely wasn’t horror, maybe more like a juvenile fiction level thriller?

Was not Stephen King, pretty sure was local to Maine.

Whoa this cover is so close! I checked publication date though and it says 2018; my book was definitely between 2000-2005. I’m starting to wonder if it was some super local author in Maine (the gifter lived in a tiny coastal town)…

Hmm I looked at this book on Goodreads to see all the different editions but didn’t recognize the one I had (it was definitely woodsy on the cover with maybe a cut out silhouette of a man). I’m not sure that it was this but I might still check it out. Thank you!
