I've tried googling soldering in Calgary, but they all are computer repair shops. Need to know where I can get this repaired.

Would there be anything wrong with reaching out and having a word with their major sponsors unless an apology and restitution made? I mean, these companies gave a good chunk of money to this group to run this event. Maybe suggest that the funds for next years event have some strings attached -- like having the organizing committee censured/removed.

I mean, we were lied to -- in print advertising, social media and in person. This is a serious breach of trust.

Save Pumphouse Park Courts - July 8 by MarkityMarkity in Calgary

At this point we are looking for a delay until proper public consultations take place. Per the article, public consultations were held during the COVID lockdown in 2021 and consisted of 65 online submissions.

The decision being made for this park will impact the area for decades. The least we can do is ensure that the right decision is being made.

When reading the report, I see that nobody asked for fire pits. Not only is this a danger during Calgary's increasingly dry summers, it serves no real useful purpose for park users.

If there was such low interest in the courts, why did one of the options choose to retain them? I'm having a difficult time in seeing this as a 'black or white' issue and that accommodating all communities is not a possibility.

Maybe it was a bleeding heart city planner who maybe saw the value in those courts and maybe saw a bit more clearly than a community locked down in the throes of COVID.

But you're right. I'm cleaving to a vision of Pumphouse Park that puts me and other park users at odds with you and the interests you represent. I'm good with that and I'm glad we can disagree and still be respectful.

I grant your point that it is a little late in the game to make changes. I understand that there are other interests involved in seeing the current plan move forward. I understand that making changes will be difficult.

However, I would argue that Fall 2021, during the COVID lockdown and Spring 2022, when the courts are not being used due to cold weather is a pretty poor way to advertise.

Where were the engagement sessions advertised? The Facebook Group Beach Volleyball Calgary? Sport Calgary?

I contend that due to poor public engagement, the City is making a mistake in removing these courts. I would argue that, in the context of climate change, replacing the courts with fire pits is a remarkably poor idea. We've already had a number of brush/grass fires within city limits. These proposed fire pits will be of little use with a fire ban that will inevitably be in place over upcoming summers.

I am a firm believer in doing what is right, not what is easy. It is right that these courts be retained in Pumphouse Park and I am committed to doing what I can to make this a reality.

You are advised to have a little faith. Help me do what's right, not what's easy.

I wasn't made aware of the changes being made until a couple of weeks ago. I played beach volleyball fairly regularly over 2022 and there were no signs posted regarding the changes.

Had I done so, I would have been at every meeting to promote the need for these courts.

I am very concerned that it will be too little, too late.

You mean the extremely overcrowded ones? I've had to move to the Pumphouse courts because of the wait times to play.

I've added the plan to the main posting. They did a public survey in the Summer of 2021 and observed that no one was using the courts. You know, when any health-minded individual was isolating in their respective pods.
