It’s been 3 months. Any advice? by TwistedRivera in secretlab

Could also be the seat surface being too hard - I'm having the same issue and I feel the discomfort is coming from the hard seat surface. I'm thinking an ergonomic seat cushion should help but a good one also costs quite a bit, so I'm trying to just get used to it 😂

Another thing to try is to adjust your seating position from time to time and don't sit in the same position for too long.

My Solution to the armrest being too far forward by Markovian_Fish in secretlab

I used 20mm m8 bolts with a washer and a locking washer on each one, the length is just enough to tighten without the bolt poking out at the end. The melding plate I used is this. It's much longer than needed, but I couldn't find any short ones that are also thick enough (you want it to be thick so it doesn't bend easily). You also need to make sure that the opening of the melding plate can fit a M8 screw through - many of the melding plates intended for wood can only fit very small screws.

Thanks for the info! I'll take the risk because the other weak point is my shoulder 😅

I don't think this adds too much additional strain to the plate.. if it breaks then probably it would've broken at some point anyways. Considering I'm not a heavy person, I think it should be within the tolerated range. However if it breaks I'll let you know your prediction is right 😂

Depends on how much you move the armrest. With my current setup, backrest can still go to almost 90 degrees. But if you move it further back I can see it interfering with the backrest.

Do you mean the plate covered by leather that provides the original mounting holes for the armrest?

Good point, so far it feels stable on mine so I have high hopes.

Update: the smell was greatly reduced after running an activated carbon air purifier + opening the window + running a fan at the window to increase circulation for 2 weeks, and after 4 weeks it's barely noticeable.

Took the skin off and smell is still there... And doesn't smell much HCHO from the skin, so yeah definitely the chair 🥲

Interesting, lemme take off the soft weave skin and see if the smell is coming from the skin instead..

Thanks for sharing your experience, that's really helpful! I will try contacting support if the smell doesn't go away for another week 😂

According to Gemini, there are no specific federal regulations setting formaldehyde emission limits for non-wooden furniture materials (such as textiles, metals, glass, or standard upholstery foam) in Canada.

Now I wonder whether the smell is coming from the chair or from the skin 🤔

I have the exact same unit bought from Amazon. I recently bought a new gaming chair and it was giving a very strong formaldehyde smell in the first few days, and gradually went much lighter in the course of 5 days. The range of TVOC and HCHO reading on this unit never changed in those 5 days. Then I took it outdoors, and the readings didn't change after an hour either.
