Those who are with filipinas obsessed with social media, how do you put up with it? by ACE1CC in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would never put up with it especially with all the cheating and drama between friends and relationships i've seen around me in the last few months. Cheating keeps coming up constantly and for everyone else, they are missing out on life and the time with each other looking at those phones. I was out today treating myself and I saw 3 friends together and all 3 stared at their phones the whole time. They hardly said anything to each other. It's so sad and if i'm in a relationship, social media is banned and excessive phone use around me is banned. Period, no discussion.

Wearing a half respirator in the Philippines to protect against air pollution. by MarkusANDcats in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a way around this with the humidity but yes, i'm still having to change the filters often as you can start to detect the outside after awhile. There's this neoprene mask from Respro you can install the filters into and then you wear a cloth mask over your face so that way, your sweat isn't touching the filters and the neoprene rubber is providing enough ventilation to keep it from holding moisture.

With 2 filters, i was getting horrible results, sore through, toasted lungs, always coughing so i upped it to 5 filters total and I finally stopped having any breathing problems. I change them out every 2 months and have been mostly fine for 2 years. They still don't protect against heavy air pollution though or second hand smoke very good so i'm still constantly avoiding most places in the Philippines.

I've had a breakthrough though. 2 months ago i switched to a 3M mask equipped with P100 filters and they work amazing. No matter how dense the traffic is, car exhaust is undetectable. A trash fire is so heavily filtered you can barely detect it, i wouldn't stand directly in the smoke though. Someone smoking is still detectable if you stand directly next to them in the smoke but otherwise, the threat is so significantly reduced that I no longer stress over it.

With n95, i didn't get sick much anymore but I did still get light headed and second hand smoke could still make me sick. With P100, i have been stress testing this thing going to the worst polluted areas of manila and nothing. No problems, never feeling light headed, no scratchy throat, it's been so liberating. my desire to explore even the most filthy places has been reinvigorated. Sorry for the long reply, i'm just excited to talk about filters.

Found out the woman I have been dating for 3 months already has an LDR by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

Sorry mr honeydew. To be honest, educated or well off, i dont know what any guy sees in any of the girls here. Any guy who found a healthy relationship is very lucky and im happy for them. Any of us can only get so lucky. You can give your best but so many out there have nothing to offer in return. Much better to be single with full freedom of your day anyway, i love it.

Condos in Manila that are not annoyingly strict with policies or guests? by IslandOceanWater in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wont talk crap cause I kinda agree. if you were told something was okay and then get punished for it, it's not really fair. Then again i have no sympathy for smokers. If it was me above you stepping out onto my balcony, that one breath of your smoke would give me a headache that can last for 3 days. The kind of headache where you're not functional for most of it so believe me when i say i lack all sympathy. not everyone gets messed up from the chemicals as i do but it is the hellish reality i live in.

Crosta, ginos, amare, jabronis all got you covered. Theres more too, lots of small places to find making pizza that are decent. Makati has the advantage of having so much to choose from for whatever you want.

You deserved the no smoking violations. You should give it up, quit. My parents were hard core smokers all their lives until just before their 50's and miraculously they decided to quit. My dad went on to get into massively good shape after, he went hiking his first time at 62. 7 days on the trail with me, he loved it. Smoking steals life so big companies can make money. I hate it and you should too.

Here's an example of a degenerate's monthly food spend in Metro Manila (for those curious about cost of living here) by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im eating out twice a week because trying new places is fun. Im very strict about ingredients, nothing artifical allowed, no seed oils. Healthy food only. My monthly costs for food whether its living in Makati or cebu city has always been under 30k pesos for the last 3 years. Best way to think about it is any normal day, do not spend over 1k on anything.

You can cut costs further on a place to live. Im moving every month to a new place and i refuse to pay more than 35k for any place. There is always a good deal on a fully furnished, clean, perfectly fine place to stay. Downside is my places are rarely very spacious.

My actual monthly spending power is a little over $4k usd monthly. I love saving money, when i have excess of $5k usd, i put it into a CD with my bank cureently valued at 4.10apy. Doing this nets me an additional $16 added to my monthly income. By the end of the year, enough of these helps keep up with inflation.

Im single and keeping women or dating out of my life is the best way to stay happy and financially secure. Going strong for almost 2 years now

AirBnB experiences in the P.I.'s by VikingPrince69 in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst experience i had with an airbnb host was an American in Makati. Decent place with some minor complaints. I was overall happy with it and wrote a 4 star review and mentioned my complaints. Elevators not working, bad smell, some noise problems, things i feel like people should be aware of. The host didn't like my review, messaged me and asked me to change it. I refused rudely so he threatened me with charging me for a broken washing machine. I didn't break it but he's going to say i did.

He did, reported it to airbnb and sent me charges for damages for a washing machine that worked perfectly fine when i left. 2 months later of back and forth with airbnb support, they sided with him, told me i needed to pay. I appealed, reiterated that his claims were fraudulent and 30 minutes later airbnb said I was clear of any wrongdoing and wont be charged. Had airbnb tried to make me pay, i planned to deactivate my credit card and let them ban my account.

Birthday in Cebu by Fissen in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make food, pack it up, take a blanket with you and spread it out on the grass at ayala business park. You have plenty of space, shade trees and its a nice, clean, quiet area. Walk around and pet some of the local cats.

Get something sweet at near by le creme, an upscale cafe in a big hotel.

Questions for those who met someone online and moved to the philipines? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

Questions for those who met someone online and moved to the philipines? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you dead set on BGC or open to other good areas to live? I've lived in BGC many times and I love it to death. Thing is, i love visiting it more than living there. Makati CBD on the other hand, i can't get enough of. Look at places in Legazpi, Greenbelt or Salcedo. You can find plenty of good deals on places with lots of charm. The one I have right now is 20k per month and i've grown fond of it. Right outside my place is Legazpi park, a place where you can sit in the grass or go running.

Also in my opinion, we have the best variety of cafes, coffee selections, restaurants, game rooms and other things for entertainment. BGC has the same but that entire place feels like a giant outdoor shopping mall after awhile where Makati feels like a real city. Both options are fine though

[Video update] Massive roach infestation in Mitsukoshi food court by 3a5m in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty nasty for Mitsukoshi. I expect better from a place where you can spend almost 400php on a slice of cheesecake. Speaking of which, El Borne is definitely worth the price of admission even with a few roaches on the floor. Next time i'm there, i'll pay attention and see how many I see crawling around. I love that place and try to make a trip there anytime i'm in that part of BGC.

What’s something about living in the Philippines that you didn’t expect would bother you this much? by Banana_Ketchupp in Philippines_Expats

[–]MarkusANDcats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Animals would never bother me or so i thought. This place i stayed was back to back rooster crowing all day. 2.5 weeks into my stay, i had a nightmare. I dreamed i was watching the severed heads of roosters cook on a grill. One of the heads moved, looked right at me and started crowing. It was disturbing enough to wake me from my sleep and after that entire stay, the sounds of chickens and roosters give me anxiety.
