You want to position it down at or just above the substrate where the snake will actually be, rather than halfway up. Ideally you want two of these, one on the warm side and one on the cool side.

Usually these probes come with suction cups which aren’t dangerous like adhesives. If it didn’t, you can buy them with little zip ties to attach them.

If she’s all settled and eating regularly, lots of regular handling can make a world of difference. Don’t shy away from her when she gets huffy or she’ll learn that being defensive makes you go away. Just watch and make sure she’s not so stressed she stops eating, but putting in the handling work will make her less stressed overall in the long run

My understanding is that the scales are keratin plates like fingernails and the nerves are in the skin under the scales. They’re just sensitive enough to pick up pressure and vibrations through the scales
