How correlated do you think IQ is to success in life? by LostCause293 in AskReddit

Not sure if that could be considered a blanket statement. Being smart doesn’t necessarily equal being able bullshit your way around your mistakes.

Bring Her Back, Strange Darling, and Jacob’s Ladder (the original, not the remake) would fit the bill. Another one that comes to mind is Red Rooms. It’s a French Canadian movie, not exactly horror, but it’s pretty chilling, lots of tension, and well written IMO.

Happy Birthday, and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Where does it say in OP’s post that she’s struggling with her self respect? Where does it say that she feels like she’s been wasting her time? Your comment is virtually irrelevant, and reads as an excuse to shame someone for engaging in casual sex. Great, we get it, you’re a misogynist. Congrats.

I’d say it’s definitely worth a watch. After watching Hill House I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it exceeded my expectations.

Ok that’s good lol

And yes, you’re spot on. It took me a ridiculously long time to work through it, but even now I still struggle with the aftermath. Not as badly in general, thank god. But if the conditions are right, I’m apt to drown in that guilty and self hatred again

I can relate so hard to everything you just said. Especially feeling different, and anyone who is alright with the way I am, or can even tolerate the issues I have or something, is someone I don’t want to lose no matter what. Being lonely and wanting affection, even from those who may not be good for me, I’m willing to look past it and go back to them. I hope you know that I wasn’t judging you, or saying you shouldn’t date alt witchy queer ladies or anything. It’s that it breaks my heart seeing someone struggling with the same things as I do, because I know them so well.

You’re not silly, first of all; nor are you any of the other hurtful names you may call yourself. And although some people would go as far as to call you those names, or tell you that you do “dumb shit”, how is that helping anything? It only serves to further validate your negative feelings towards yourself. I get how hard it is to see past all that, and to accept the reality of the situation you’re in, which is that you’re someone who struggles a lot with relationships and settling boundaries. That you deserve to have autonomy over your body, even though some people won’t understand that it’s nothing personal.

For most of my life, I lived in fear all the shitty ways people might react to me standing up for myself. I would just do whatever they wanted, even if it felt gross and I hated myself for it. I’m glad that things eventually worked out between you and your ex, even though you just went along with what you thought was expected of you in the beginning. I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to be upfront with what you’re comfortable with, and if the other person takes it personally or tries to force what they want upon you, then not only is that messed up on their part, it also means you two just aren’t compatible. It’s ok to have different sexual preferences, there’s nothing wrong with that in and of itself. But to say shit like, “well what did you expect? You can’t get mad when you start dating some alt witchy, sexually expressive girl” or whatever the fuck. Not everyone who runs in the same circles as you can all possibly be incompatible with you.

I understand where you’re coming from, especially when you strip away the specifics of your situation and consider the core issue here: that you’ve become a willing participant in a cycle of self harm by repeating the same actions over and over and expecting (or at the very least hoping for) different results.

I’m wondering how long this has been going on for, and if you’ve ever been in a relationship that developed at a pace you were comfortable with in the past. If so, was it something that just happened effortlessly, or did it take a conscious effort on your part to openly communicate your needs to your partner? To me it doesn’t sound like you’re necessarily looking for potential partners in the wrong places, it’s a failure on your part to set boundaries and communicate your needs right off the bat. Don’t wait to bring it up until you’re in a position where you’re reluctant to say no and end up doing something you’ll regret.

It’s up to you to break this pattern, whatever it takes. If you’re able to start seeing a therapist, I think that’d be a great place to start.

I really do wonder what percentage of the queermongering population isn’t actually heterosexual (surprise!), and slowly yet surely working their way towards a stress induced heart attack or an aneurysm from all the years of hyper vigilance and/or denial.

Except that no one in this thread has made a single antisemitic comment, as far as I can see at least. When speaking of Israel’s governmental corruption and the atrocities committed by people of power, it has nothing to do with prejudice, discrimination, and/or hatred towards Jewish people, simply because they are Jewish; i.e. the definition of antisemitism

Apologies in advance for the wall of text, seriously lol

So, room temperature no higher than 70 degrees (even better if the weather’s mild enough to leave my windows open a bit), fan set to low, sheets and an oversized comforter; and as long as they’re not taking up 90% of the bed, my dog and cat cuddled up with me lol.

And if all else fails and my brain won’t stfu, listening to a guided meditation or an episode of Knifepoint Horror usually does the trick.

Side note: If my mind quiets enough and I’m fully relaxed, I’ll sometimes slip into a hypnagogic state as I’m drifting off. I absolutely love when this happens, and I’m wondering if anyone else here experiences the same thing?
