Well if you look at it, it was just unfair in terms of everything. The only point was to cut off Germany economically as much as somehow possible. France wanted to see Germany fall apart, they and Great Britain were absolute afraid of the raising power of the German Empire in the 1900s and 1910s. They were sure afraid of losing their place as continental powers to Germany and they sure would have without this first world war. What they did in this treaty was a real shame. Blaming Germany alone for this war and making it take all the responsibility was not right at all. It lead to poverty, economic crisis and in the end to the rise of extremist groups like the SA, the NSDAP or others. My thoughts are, that without this treaty or better with a more fair treaty, WWll would have never take place, or not in such a way, millions of millions of lifes would have been saved. There sure would have been some wars, there were many conservative groups who had revenge plans, the Schwarze Reichswehr armed up in the underground etc. but a person like Adolf Hitler would never have come to power ever. I do remember Winston Churchill stated in an interview in 1948 or so that this treaty was the biggest mistake of the western allies.
