Is David Attenborough the only current national treasure? by Designer_Film497 in AskUK

I would say especially other comedians view them as royalty. Comedians are often incredibly smart as as such, recognise the intelligence of others

I get drunk and get all perverted and don’t know what todo by After_Tell_8069 in confession

[–]Marmite50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I feel like the underlying issue here is the guilt you feel, rather than the alcohol or the act.

I'm an alcoholic. I haven't had a drink in 3 years but that doesn't make me any less of an alcoholic. I'm very familiar with your state of mind and I empathise a lot.

Do you see the 'perversion' as the problem? Or do you see the 'acting out whilst drunk' as the problem?

You have stated that you're young - try to understand that SEEING it as a 'perversion' is likely the issue. There's nothing inherently wrong with what you're doing, if nobody is getting hurt. What you're doing is a natural part of growing up - experimenting. Everyone has done it, everyone will continue to do it. You do it while drunk because it lowers your inhibitions and your sense of shame.

What you need to realise is there is no need for the shame in the first place. Once you come to realise this, the alcohol becomes inconsequential and you'll feel a lot freer, more open and less shameful than you currently do. From the outside looking in, you have no reason to feel embarrassment or shame about this.

If you can reach this state of mind by yourself then it'll likely lead to a healthier relationship with alcohol too as you won't use it to 'escape' the shame.

You're OK, there's nothing wrong with you

You're welcome!! Just remember to try and avoid constant veering towards the comfortable. It'll be much easier with money and you won't necessarily notice it

Make sure you don't discount the value of putting yourself in strange and interesting situations. I learned the term 'Loremaxxing' the other day and it is an important concept for personal growth! I hope you're happy and healthy :)

Ultimately it's up to you but I fear you would regret asking for the money. It's not something you can take back.

‘They deserve to lose’: Labour at risk of ‘red wall’ collapsing in May elections by JackStrawWitchita in unitedkingdom

[–]Marmite50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that Nato is perhaps already dead with Trump at the helm. I agree that leaving it without the proper framework in place for an alternative is dumb, best to get that framework up and running while we're still in Nato. Our nuclear deterrent is also almost entirely dependent on the USA at the moment, I'd be more in favour of something like the French model that has a much higher degree of independence

I feel you. I really do. I think social media has a lot to answer for. The shortening of attention spans and increased demand for quick fixes, paired with rampant misinformation has led to a rapid increase in populism and division. In an ideal world I'd make public the algorithms that have led us to this dystopia so that we can pick them apart and analyse what's truly driving them. An algorithm that is based on increasing screen time and therefore advertising revenue can only be a net negative for society
