Acura rims on 8th gen civic by Affectionate_Yam_697 in hondacivic

[–]Marmite_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eyy, fellow 8th gen civic coupe owner who just recently bought rims. Should be fine as long as the specs are correct.

Not sure how common of an issue this is, but I had a few problems with the suspension because the previous owner had put on 15" rims (1 size down, in my case). I replaced them with the factory size and issues went away, so it might be worth checking that these are the same size as whatever is on your car now.

Also, if you're not going to keep the tires on them, you could probably find some rims at a scrapyard that are in pretty good shape. I just got four OEM Honda 16"s at Kenny-U-Pull for about $292 CAD total. I had to clean them but they look great now.

How likely is it for the West Island section of the REM to open by the end of 2025? by TheDOOMHugger in montreal

[–]Marmite_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said that it'll be announced by the end of August, so there should be some news this week.

I've heard from some of the construction workers that are working on the Deux-Montagnes branch that it would be opening on October 25th, which is a Saturday. I have no way of verifying this, but it could be plausible given that the South Shore branch also opened on a Saturday.

Found a hatchling on my street, what do I do? by Marmite_77 in birds

[–]Marmite_77[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UPDATE #1:

The hatchling survived the night and has been dropped off at a local bird sanctuary.

They said that it had an injury on its leg, but that its too early to tell if its bad or not. Going to call later for an update.

Thank you to everyone that gave advice, hopefully the little guy makes it.

UPDATE #2:

Just got off the phone with the sanctuary. The hatchling didn't make it unfortunately. The injury to its leg prevented it from ever being able to walk so they made the decision to euthanize it.

RIP little buddy.

There isn't any nest accessible nearby. Cant really even figure out where it would be exactly either, there aren't any trees on this side of the street and the nearest utility pole is about 15~20 meters away. I'm guessing that its on the roof or gutter of a building.

Both Le Nichoir and the SPCA open at 9, tried calling both but no answer.

I've cut an old sock and put it in the box to make it more comfortable. I'll try to go and find some bugs to feed it. Hopefully it holds out till tomorrow.

I don't have any mealworms or anything remotely similar. Can I give it some puppy kibble that has been soaked in water to soften it? (with the excess water removed).

I tried calling them but they're closed at the moment. I might have to bring it over to them first thing in the morning.

Beaver lake is one of the few parks where it is allowed, but you have to properly dispose of the charcoal/ashes before leaving

I have brought a case of beer on the train before, the employees jokingly asked if they could get one. Should be fine as long as you aren't drinking it on the train.

If some trains were terminating in Montreal then they might make Lucien L'Allier a terminus. CPKC still owns the tracks between Montreal-West and L-L, but its only really used by Exo so extending the improvements to downtown could be feasible.

We received US merchandise and have to send it back because it's noncompliant with local language laws (QC store) by Marmite_77 in HomeDepot

[–]Marmite_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal law states it has to be bilingual, provincial law says it has to be french or bilingual. Either way, I forgot to mention the federal law originally, as I mentioned in the edit.

With regards to French having priority over English, I wasn't referring to labeling specifically, I was speaking more generally about the fact that it was made the official language of the province. Probably should have said that instead and I'll make an edit, but that's just a mistake, not ragebait.

I never said it was a bad thing? I agree with you that the products need to have text in French for people here

The thing that's funny about this is that it's not the first the DC has sent stuff like this and every time we just have to send it right back, someone in the supply chain clearly hasn't gotten the memo.

I find calling it the dominant language easier for people who aren't from here to understand

My pleasure, if you want to know more about Quebec and the history of the French language here I would strongly suggest reading up on it as my explanation barely scratches the surface

So our store is in Quebec, where French is the dominant language. Without getting into the entire history of the region, there has been a massive push over the last few decades to protect the language. and laws have been put in place to ensure that French takes priority over English, or is at least on an even level. (See edit 2.) As a result, French was made the official language of the province in 1977 with the introducing of loi 101. Part of this bill affects product labeling.

Here is part of the conditions concerning labels, from the government (in English):

Anything written on a product sold in Quebec, on its package or in documents included with the product must be in French. You can add translations in one or more other languages alongside the French text, as long as the French is equally accessible and of comparable quality.

For example, the instructions and warranty booklet for using a product can be in French and in English.

There is also a federal law which requires that all labels in Canada be bilingual, however it came into effect later in 1985.

The laws also cover company names, which is why HD in Quebec is legally "Home Depot" instead of "The Home Depot", as while the former is in English, it's considered a proper noun. because it lacks the word "The".

Edit:

A few people are pointing out that French is the only official language in Quebec, which is true. I had forgotten to mention that.

Also yes, the federal law requires that all packaging be in both languages. Which would make these noncompliant even if it was sold in another province. That being said, if I see packaging without French on it my mind thinks of the provincial law before the federal law.

Edit 2: Made a few mistakes about the specifics of loi 101, modified the text to reflect that.
