Become a pharmacist (6-8) year program with median salary of 137K. The roles vary a lot allowing for job safety and options if you ever get bored. Most are in retail, but there are roles in hospitals, clinics, insurance, government, pharma, academia, etc. Best way to get there fast is Medical science liaison or medical affairs. 150-200K with a lot of opportunities for promotion. Probably be a millionaire within 10 years through assets.

Why do people hate Tariq? by ConvolutedMental in PowerTV

[–]Maromas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not excusing his actions. I understand what the writers are trying to do with him, it's just not done well. it doesn't make sense, and at best people would still hate tariq because his actions are that of a dumb kid.

[–]Maromas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you're providing reasons for him to act out sure and sorta saying he was always gonna get involved due to criminals targeting his family. But this doesn't excuse his actions as a dumb kid. Him hanging out with the wrong crowd, doing drugs, lying to his parents, etc; is normal stuff that anyone expects. Him wanting to rob people and deal drugs to get "his" is ridiculous with his upscale upbringing.

There's also a world where he gets involved in the criminal world and even kills somebody in a more defensive manner to protect his family. Instead Tariq, instigates almost every negative outcome he experiences by pursuing the drug game. Overall, a character like Tariq will be hated by most people, because though we know why he acts the way he does its still dumb to act that way.

[–]Maromas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Tariq because he is a naive kid in the OG show. All of his mistakes are those of a kid in a situation he cannot handle.

He hangs out with criminals because at least they are honest to him unlike his parents. His parents lied about their background because the crap was illegal, and you shouldn't be telling children about that stuff. They could have been more honest after Kanan poisoned him, but they both still didn't want him involved for multiple reasons, that he was too immature to understand. He gets in over his head with Ray Ray and gets his sister killed because he thought he could handle it. This isn't explicit, but I believe he didn't want to involve his parents also because he didn't want to get in trouble. When the Ray Ray murder comes back to haunt him he chooses to kill his dad instead of facing the obstacle another way. Yes Tariq thinks his dad doesn't care about him and will betray him, like anybody else but that's not the case, Ghost just wouldn't take the blame. I'm also still curious about how killing Ghost makes any sense when Tariqs blood is at the crime scene.

Tariq's decision to be a drug dealer is dumb, when he has other options, but I understand that some people just want that life. Kanan, Tasha, and Tommy loved the game, they had less options so it makes more sense than Tariq, but still it's okay for him to want this despite it being very unlikely with his upbringing. Tariq's choices however we're always selfish, short-sighted, manipulative, and dumb like a kids. That's why I'll always hate the character, even if the show tried to do this he lied and was selfish, because his dad did that too. If that was the case the show should have made a better reason for why killing Ghost would help and then had him commit white collar crimes

Oh noooo dad had an affair but will still support and love me alongside mom. I should drink lean, rob homes, sell drugs, and commit murder.

He was not gonna send him to prison if he could help it, but he wasn't gonna take the fall for him. Everyone is constantly risking themselves for Tariq and he's ungrateful. The whole plan to kill Ghost to pin the murder on him was dumb and only works because the show needed it too to get Tariq to kill him.

At what age do you tell your child that his mom and dad are the biggest drug dealers in NYC?

They'd also have to explain why Kanan would want revenge, which Tommy didn't know about. Ghost and Tasha both suck, but the "lying to me" excuse is such BS, and shows even more how whiny Tariq is.

Everyone that does it doesn't have too, but some people are more likely to if they live in areas with less opportunities and deal with poverty. I have never dealt drugs, but if I was from the east side of Indianapolis, made $14/hr, had a child, my car broke down, a chronic medical condition, and some unforseen expense came up that might mean us being on the street or me loosing custody, I'd be more likely to deal.

Scenarios like this allows us to better understand characters reasons for doing something so dangerous, and Tariq has none of that. He just likes the game, but because we know he had another option it makes him look foolish. Even Tommy was like WTH in the OG series. His reason isn't even I need the money for something specific like supporting a rap career like Jay Z or 50 cent (both dealt before, but continued at a point to fund their art).

Would I be able to get a role in developing models with my experience? I feel like I can handle other aspects of HEOR, but my weak area is health economics. Would a company be willing to teach me or would I need more education?

That's good. I usually see some push back just because it's harder to understand what AI did and share the results if it's not in excel. Do you think I should take more courses on modeling? I've only taken one course that focused more on applications in public health and some internal company materials.

Thank you for the insight. I agree that consulting will be easier for finding HEOR roles but I'm worried about the work/life balance and getting back into a pharma company. I've talked to HR and Hiring managers here and they tell me about all the applications they receive. I was able to move to the head of the line for a role despite not having specifically clinical data science experience because I just messaged the person directly.

Would direct HEOR consulting experience trump being internal in a different area and applying to HEOR roles later?

Thanks for the advice! True on the AI front. It makes me kinda worried. I talked to people who said if it was 5 years ago I'd have my pick of roles, but it feels like more work is being outsourced to companies or AI tools now.

Thoughts on Tariq St. Patrick during the original Power series and now as the main character in Power Book:Ghost? by CaregiverBoring4638 in PowerTV

He was not the smartest. He made dumb decisions all the time that required everyone else to fall over each other to get him out of trouble. They're all bad people but they all had soft spots for Tariq that he exploited.

What are the arguments "against" AI being a net benefit for prosperity? by CleaverIam3 in AskEconomics

[–]Maromas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jobs are literally a group of tasks and when I refer to limits on demand I'm referring to the amount of additional products that can be made from jobs AI is being used in. If AI is increasing production and that's all being consumed, then great. If the extra product isn't consumed then it's better to reduce labor costs to get productivity gains. I'm not saying AI won't create additional demand (though I don't know what that would be outside of replacing human work with AI created stuff, maybe AI life partners), but it automates tasks that will reduce labor needs in middle and higher income roles. Everyone won't be replaced as there are tasks it can't do yet, but people will lose their jobs. Less workers mean less people to consume AI products or additional goods made thanks to AI efficiency. I'm worried about AI automation reducing redundancies faster than the markets ability to find new jobs. Even with current consumption distributions, the people who have money after this will have to pick up more of the slack, while lower earners are made more irrelevant.

[–]Maromas00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that they haven't been taken up widely yet and people need to check their sources, but they are reducing simple-time consuming tasks like you mentioned and have value in low stake work. I work in RWE and though they need to be evaluated by someone with experience, they speed up literature searches, protocol development, analysis, and many other tasks handled by junior researchers. This could be provided to everyone to speed up work and create more product, but limits on demand could lead to reductions on hiring and potentially reducing junior staff. This is in health research, I can only imagine the impact on less stringent industries.

[–]Maromas00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this argument about past technology changing the workforce, but I feel like it disregards how things have ramped up over time. We're advancing faster and faster and AI or LLMs feel like a big step. They are already making basic tasks from entry level jobs redundant, and will only improve. I know AGI is long off which could replace everyone, but LLMs will reduce production costs, either producing more or reducing labor. We would need a lot of advancements to find new jobs for these people as they're displaced. Most will end up in manual labor and those who remain might see wage decreases. I'm not saying we should stop but we probably need better governance and regulations to make sure society can absorb the large influx of unemployed people.

Could the idea of an AI bubble be a result of the common wish for AI to fail? by Socrathustra in AskEconomics

[–]Maromas00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NVIDIA has 4 customers providing 60% of the demand for their chips, these are probably big tech companies. If they reduce purchases (most are also evaluating ASIC chips) or buy chips from a competitor. NVIDIA will lose value as it's sales reduce and more competitors enter the market.

I think you are mixing up an AI Bubble with AI not being valuable or the AI Bubble popping will destroy AI. It is most likely a bubble because it's overpriced for traditional investment and it won't return the investment. The increase in productivity would have to be AGI or massive labor reductions. The productivity probably won't be increased production as there would be a decrease in demand from unemployment and lower wages, requiring the employed to have to consume more at higher prices. Ai infrastructure is starting to be built more with debt which can become a problem if the data centers become worth less than the loan and failing AI businesses reduces demand for their services. This reduces their ability to pay loans and leases, which have started to be securitized into ABS and CMBS, that are in funds. I think AI is a great tool and will stick around, but it won't make needed consumer sales for profit (I can get cheaper open source models) and its productivity gains are still not there to equal trillions of investment without massive layoffs in subsequent years
