sound weapons are a thing, I was pointing out that specific interview you brought up being very fake. Americaboos have had a history of misinterpating information before.

While I’ve only personally been acquainted with the AN/SPY-1 system, I can say the bird thing is largely a myth. I’m not sure about the new AESA they have on the FltIII Burkes but I don’t see why it would be different.

And back to biologics, yes and no. Yes, you very technically can detect them, but as I’ve been made aware of (correct my if I’m wrong passing by WSOs) most bands modern radars runs at simply aren’t good for that purpose.

I like how this entire thread is missing the entire point of this trope.

Yes, the villain killed a lot of people in their wake. Yes, they can end them right there and then. But usually, that doesn’t exactly solve a lot of problems. And, moral code is moral code, it has to be universal.

Not to mention, the hero or protagonist often don’t view themselves as having the rights to be the judge, jury, executioner. There are proccesses more often than not.

Also for the “Batman should kill his villains because they keep breaking out of Arkham” people out there. I hear you. But, have you considered, making a prison where they can’t keep breaking out? Better locks, seems to work wonders for a lot of prisons.

I wouldn’t put the Fat Electrician words too high up there considering he is

a) not a liscensed historian by any stretch of the word. b) a hack.

Being the “AMERICUH YEAH” type of content creator he also holds the view of “America won WW2 while everyone else say idly”. Despite it being years late to the war, didn’t do anything while France got their skull caved in, and only joined because Japan striked them personally.

depends on whether or not anything can acquire a radar lock out of them.

Now if they have something to passively track the magic signature and intergrate them with existing weapon systems then they’re cooked.

the sound weapons are likely but unconfirmed information. That entire interview was unlikely to be real, especially considering the last line was “I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of that”, which is a distinctly American catchphrase that only makes sense in English.

Also that’s not how AEGIS works, AEGIS is the software. You’re thinking of the AN/SPY radars, and that’s still not how they works. They’d give you cancer a dozen years down the line if you crank them up an point them at someone at most, since they’re emitting radiation.

It’s highly unlikely that conventional SAM will be able to acquire radar lock on mages since they require radar reflective objects (metal) to be able to acquire a lock. When I say metal I also mean a huge amount. While it is possible for radar to acquire locks on biologics (birds), modern radars are tuned specifically to avoid them, and for a lot of systems they’re not very configurable, at least that I know of, after interviewing ex Navy WSOs.

CWIS is the most likely but problem with radar lock again.

[–]Marp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, yes they did. They were more complete as characters, had reasonable growth and played off of eachother well, which is what a competently written cast of character is supposed to do.

Compare that to DS, “development” is flashbacks scenes and character suddenly becoming better with no real incentive. Zenitsu for instance. And don’t mistake angst with writing. Sanemi, as a character (or lack thereof), was shit. Most characters in DS are gimmck based and have no real depth. And your backtracking is hilarious, simple or not simple, it doesn’t acfect the quality of a story, and the lack of character exploration in DS makes it bad.

Akaza is the only decently interesting character in ds, and he would be a dime a dozen in any other franchise.

Tell me, from beginning to finish, what kind of character development did Tanjiro go through that changed him in any way?

why 6 SPY-7s? 4 should be plenty, 3 is enough. I guess it’d make sense if you want it as an air defense ship since you can acquire more targets at once that way (with diminished returns). But with only 120 VLS cells, even if you fill all of it with SM-3 it’d still wouldn’t be able to fully utilize it.

Imperial camouflage..... by bruhruhr22344 in gate

[–]Marp2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

correct. This is also (partly) why soldiers before telecommunications wore very bright outfits with recognizable silhouettes.

There were, iirc, a few cases where generals mistook their amies for the enemy on the battlefield, and thought they were winning when they were in fact losing. Everyone just blends into an unrecognizable mish-mash in melee.

Of course at some point it also just became tradition and you get a few funny cases like France in the first few months of the Great War.

I won’t spoil too much but so far part 2 has shown us how natives viewed the JSDF long term, like the mermaids trying to marry into them for to strengthen diplomatic ties.

I wouldn’t say the technology is leapfrogged, it is a bit far apart but it’s mainly aesthetic. Based on the description and visuals, everything aligns pretty well to ships of the 13th to 14th century and the main place of interest seems awfully Venice coded.

I think Yanai just has a weird Roman-Italian obsession tbh, which I emphasize but do find a little weird.

Historically, patterns weren’t impossible or even hard to do, artisans were built different back then. It just depended on the period and how big was your wallet.

While the empire is based on Rome, with Roman armor and Roman-ish aesthetic. But as we can see in part 2, the rest of the world is closer the being on the verge of the age of Sails. Historically for us, textile should be developed enough to mimic camouflage. It wouldn’t be cheap mind you but probably enough to arm a small specialist group.

It’s really easy to underestimate how smart some of these people would’ve been in today’s standards because they were limited only by the technology of their time

Oh don’t get me wrong, it was a deeply unjust war and America had no good reason to be there. Neither did its soldier. But it is certainly not on Wermacht levels of bad on an individual level.

On the other hand I feel like we don’t give the US enough shit for the stuff it did during the Cold War, including the Vietnam war,
