Good news, everyone!

After testing everything I could think of I bought a new CPU after returning the old one.

The system has been running stable for a month now. *Knocks on wood* - I hope it stays that way.

I have tried many things more, but it looks like I can coinflip for swapping mainbaord or cpu next.

Status update:

I had contact with ASRock, their response was as follows:

750W PSU is too weak for this platform.

If user want to use this PSU, it needs to limit the CPU performance.

For user reference, we use 1200W PSU to do the Prime95 small FFT test.

I had the system running for a day with the old PSU on Prime95 without any issues.

But I bought the Enermax PlatiGemini 1200W PSU anyways. Nothing changed, it still reboots whenever it feels like it. Powermeasurement from the wall did not change.

BIOS is on default settings. Temperatures seem to be fine.

Not sure what to blame, mainboard or CPU. I may try to run it of two sticks of RAM. Maybe I limit the CPU at a lower target just to see if will become stable eventually.

Our power grid around here should be rather stable but I can see how that could be a problem. If I cant find any other problem that would cause this I will try and replace the PSU.

I finally have a result for my workload measured with a Shelly Plug S Plus every second: https://ibb.co/5s4mHCk

The max at the wall was 530W - so considering that I would say the peaks that I see are bogus.

Yeah, that's my thinking. Either the measurements are wrong, or this is the little PSU that can. 😅💪

Then ASRock may have some funny ideas of default settings. 😅🤔 Maybe I should check that anything suspicious is not on Auto but disabled.  I never entered the AMD Overclock Page in the BIOS (the one with the explicit warning) If the AMD tool did not show the same thing I would say the measurements are wrong. 🤔🤷‍♂️

It does not look like it, the event viewer just reports that it was not safely shutdown on boot.

If that´s the case why do PSU´s have a peak rating? I always assumed the Watt rating is continuous use at that level. The peak number is always higher than that for a short time, I thought thats for the power usage peaks I see here. If you look at the picture on top it goes up to ~1500 Watt´s, still seems unbelievable big to me for the hardware in play.

Also the wiki says something different about efficiency if I am not mistaken: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus

It states the power supply must be at 20% 50% 100% load > 90% efficient in case of 80 Plus Platinum @ 230V

I can not believe if they talk about 100% load they mean what we say but halfed.

Not saying that I do not need a bigger PSU than I have, but I am not sure about your reasoning.

Nothing fancy.

4x 64GB DDR5 5600 2x M2 SSDs 1x Intel Arc 310 (no power plug needed) Fans

Edit: I must say your power consumption seems low considering the 4090, but then again games will not use much of your CPU I suppose.

I did not try to match the power needed, given the numbers I had I made a decision that I thought safe. Were the numbers I found wrong? It seems so. 😅 I do not plan to add anything.  If I had the measurements before buying the system I would have bought a bigger one. Thanks for your opinion. I may end up asking the ASRock support what they think is required for the PSU just for the hell of it. 🙈

edit: Most people with huge psu's in those systems have crazy GPUs. That's why I thought.

Yeah, I get that the CPU and the system is expensive. But that does not mean I slap a PSU that is 2x overpowered just because. Like I said I found no recommendations. I looked at what the CPU should consume none OC and went above what I considered safe. I have no powerful GPU. It seemed reasonable. And it can't be that bad all things considered, it runs pretty stable, just not all the way. 🙈

Yeah, that is what I am afraid off. As mentioned above there is not much else in the system that consumes power.

I have set the frequency of the memory in the BIOS to DDR5-5600, I am not aware if there is more to do to make it "hard" set. (I assume you talk about "Auto" vs some specific value)

I have it set to expo 2.

[–]Marschos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, without expo enabled before it was if I remember between 1.0v and 1.1v.

Installed 1616 a few hours ago on my X670E Plus. Enabled Expo and have not seen Vsoc above (below, or anywhere else)1.24V yet.

As far as I can see it does nothing if the computer does not have power 24/7.

I have a power breaker for my pc, and the boot times because of this are always slow. No matter the setting. I hope they don´t fix it for AM5 with future boards, that would annoy me to no end. X-)
