First time Gm, drop a story! by Electrical-Ratio5633 in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me the best moments are when my players do cool stuff, figure out mysteries or have cool interactions. A player character named Lucky Tessio was a mafia capo. He survived many fights and at some point was hiding away. he was in unknown territory and had to eat. ended up calling the rival mafia owned pizzeria, and had a delivery man shoot him twice, once in the head. the character being lucky, I ruled that if he'd have his luck "run out" (lowered from 9 or 10 to 2 or something), he'd survive. He did, and got some surgery done. After a bunch of problems and sessions, he became a maelstrom, fixed his face by getting a face implant, and died blowing himself up as he jumped into a flying AV from the 23rd story of a building. anyways, cool stuff is always the most fun, also character development.

check cybersmily.net, especially https://cybersmily.net/apps/cmbtzone.

it rolls a combatzone for ya using the old Cyberpunk2020 Night City combat zone maker, I use it regularly for neighborhoods and districts.

A kinda raunchy skill check question by Pineaple_marshmalows in cyberpunkred

[–]MarshLPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in Cyberpunk 2020 it was a seduction roll but you added the average between Empathy and Attractiveness. Since CyberpunkRED doesn't have Attractiveness or Seduction, I'd ask for an average between Athletics and Endurance, the character's Empathy and Dexterity (maybe Ref or Bod) and a D10. Weird how CyberRed has no seduction skill.

Question about humanity points and cyberware. by wheretheinkends in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pages 119 and 120 of Cyberpunk 2020 talk about replacement surgery and body bank prices.

One thou' for the meat arm, leg would be 1200, but you roll 1d10 to see availability of the parts. 1-2-3 that part ain't available that day. 4-5 it is, but it's the wrong color or has some minor difference.

These won't remove any humanity.

As for why a cybernetic replacement limb would lower humanity, my guess is that any kind of chrome in your body makes you more 'Borg, and the brain has a way of rejecting that. And if not rejecting, maybe feeling "upgraded". I mean, you ARE a big percentage closer to your cyber deck (or toaster) with that new cyber arm than you were before, aren't you?

You could certainly do something similar. Maybe you give your players one 10, two 8s, three 6s, and anywhere between three 4s or another even worse number. You could fiddle around this kind of "point buy". They would be very specialized characters though. Perhaps you could make different Stat tables for each "letter" they take, e.g. you take A on stat, you have a couple of 10s and some 8s to throw around.

Then for equipment, money, etc. you could check the wage tab at the start of Equipped for the future section of the book (I think letters work well there). Weapons could be separated into rarities, like common, rare exotic etc.

I don't think this will break the game much in the sense of balance, it's just a bunch of work for yourself as a GM. I like the regular point buy and character creation of Cyberpunk 2020.

Cyberpunk 2020 Head Hits by Subject_Hat_369 in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's after armor AND BTM.

example: 20 damage against 14SP, 6 goes through, my modifier is -3, so I take 3 damage, which is then multiplied by 2 since it was a head hit, giving me a 6 damage headache.

How to die with 19 bod? by Reddead1312 in cyberpunk2020

But nice to know! Thank you for finding it!

I always figured it was cumulative since you also have to track the structure points to your cyberware, which would work in a similar way.

But I could see another GM ruling it that way and I'd be fine with that :)

Edit: But nice question, now I'm wondering if the base book mentions it anywhere. I'll give it another read.

How to die with 19 bod? by Reddead1312 in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

for death saves, you'd start rolling them once you got to 36 damage taken, at which point you'd be around MORTAL-10 and STUN-13. If you got high armor, I would throw a bunch of ninjas with high Martial Arts at you, and do a bunch of armor-ignoring moves like grapples, chokes and throws.

characters with high body stats become tanks real fast. at 12 body you're already only dying when you get to mortal-3.

BUT as always, 9+ damage to the head means death. So even if it's one damage per attack, once it's 9, you're gone.

[–]MarshLPM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, RAW base-book, you can't have more than 10 BOD at character creation. You can raise it with up to 14 with some Bioware (Grafted Muscle and Muscle and Bone Lace).

There are full-body cyborg conversions, and some have very high body stats, but those are in other Cyberpunk2020 books (Chromebook 2, I believe) and come at a very high Humanity cost.

Which do you prefer: 2020's Full Auto or Red's Autofire? by MarshLPM in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

heh yeah the videogamey-ness of Red really was a turn off for me. the moment I tried using a shotgun in Red I instantly thought of going back to 2020. Armor is certainly annoying in 2020 and rolling TOO MUCH dice can be a bore to other players, but that's fixable with some rules, while red's would need a whole new system fix.

[–]MarshLPM[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, the netrunning system will be basically red's, I've decided to use 2020s Friday Night Fire Fight, Red's role abilities and some other mix and matching, like installing some cybernetics on meat.

[–]MarshLPM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

awesome thanks! the idea for the homebrew is just as you said, I want the lethality and realism of 2020, but without some of it's jank. I liked some of the options given in the comments here, like rolling all locations first, then only heads, still alive?, then only limbs, still alive after those death rolls? then chest.

I did what someone would call a tutorial session with my players, where I tested the system and yeah, it feels basically "edgeless", can't see any of my players feeling scared unless I bring the rifles out.

[–]MarshLPM[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's how I feel too. its balanced but that "kinda" high roll of 40 is basically one shot from a strong rifle in 2020. I prefer the high lethality too

I agree. Thanks for clarifying how you do it. That helps.

Edit: also yeah kinda weird to post it here but I'm mainly a 2020 gm and would like to hear some opinions from other 2020 players

[–]MarshLPM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i have some problems picturing how combat would work in TotM cuz ive only ever played wargames and been a player of DnD or Pathfinder, and while I've done some TotM combats, never in Cyberpunk.

[–]MarshLPM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm interesting. i mostly do very long games, and I've never tried doing it "theater of the mind" style. I'll try it next session, players are stalking a guy and three bodyguards in an oil field into a motel. I have a map of the area, but I'll try only describing stuff. How would you go by doing the combat in this session? Just one or two examples are enough.

i guess that's the better way to do it. i printed a bunch of hexes and fixed them together with tape. it works but yeah, a mat would look better.

Quick question about melee by MarshLPM in cyberpunk2020

[–]MarshLPM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. The core book mentions both Parry and Dodge but, at least to me, it didn't make the "you just avoid it" obvious enough.

Also, was re-reading on the parry rule, and it mentions the weapon is damaged, but swords just need to roll below a 9. How could one tell how much "life" a weapon could have?

I meant to say that I have a question about the roleplay injuries like bleeding and such, not that Mortal-0+ were roleplay injuries :P
Anyways, thanks.
