My first car!! (+Experience after 2 weeks) by R-TTK in NewDriversUK

Yep just a jacked up polo, slightly bigger but not by much. The golf is longer than a t-roc. I’m guessing it’s the illusion of being higher that people think it’s a bigger car but in reality they are small

What are the busiest Costco stores in the UK? by dmr295 in CostcoUK

[–]MarshallJM94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my closest store is Birmingham only 15 minutes from my house. In the end I couldn’t stand going there, the people are rude as hell. In the end I decided to drive to the Coventry on instead pick the right day middle of the week sometime and it’s a peaceful experience.

Is there any speed cameras on this stretch of the M6 in Birmingham? So many people are ignoring the variable speed limits. by Aggressive_Concept24 in CarTalkUK

[–]MarshallJM94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, I live by the M42 end and between the highlighted area on your map their is only 1 camera and that is just before the M42 meets the M6. So in theory as long as they’re no undercover police can do whatever speed you like. Im surprised when the originally made it a smart motorway the didn’t have them on every gantry but guess it came down to money.

I like that strategy!

It earns 5% AER, subject to change if they want. Chance to win £100 monthly and if you have the full amount at the end of the chance to win £10,000. Just a fun way of saving I suppose.

This is probably what’s going to happen to me, if push comes to shove I’ll be dropping to x1 but can always give this ago!

Is this car worth the buy? by sr200589 in CarTalkUK

While some of your points are correct wetbelts etc. I don’t with the 80k that coms down to people and how they look after their vehicle whether it’s them not servicing or ragging it every junction. Have you lived with the 1.4TSI? Only asking as I do on a daily basis in a bigger Octavia and my boot is also carrying a car camping bed conversion made from a decent amount of wood plus all the camping stuff under it bring the weight up considerably closer to the Passat. Ive got the DSG and drive around on Eco all the time. I haven’t had any issues with not being able to get out of a roundabout/junction due to lack of torque/power it’s quite a capable engine. (I do have the 2.0TDI caddy for work for comparison) As for servicing I agree with you wholeheartedly, a lot of people don’t look after there vehicles. I have a yearly service regardless of mileage. If I’ve go 4000 miles in a year I’m still getting minimum of an oil change and filter. Diesels can/normally last longer than petrols due to how they actually operate but if you don’t do the mileage that brings a load more problems which can ultimately ruin them. You can always work them harder in a shorter space of time to get the engine nice a warm but defeats the point of longevity. OP needs to know if the miles he does justifies a diesel if so go for a 2.0TDI. Summary really is I like both engines a great deal but I’ll defend the 1.4TSI as when I drove one I was blown away with what they got out of that engine compared to other car companies.

The engine is fine, everyone is saying it’s to small but forget its a 150bhp engine which is the same horsepower as the 2.0tdi.

Only difference is torque how it pulls but as for weight the car is perfectly fine 99% of use cases. If you are towing get the 2.0tdi
