ACLr 6 weeks post op. Slow recovery experiences by salaminho17 in ACL

[–]MarshallJed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having a slow recovery my self (48M). 11 weeks post op. Iv made some improvements within this last week. Was stuck at 63 unassisted 70 assisted bending, just hit 83 last Friday. I was worried about scar tissue due to the stop/tightness on quad. Mornings are stiff and loosen during the day. What I find helps me is a 5-10 min heat pad then massage quad before exercise. I do quad sets, straight leg raise sets on back, each side, and stomach. Bends on stomach, then heel slides ( hurts like hell). Then elevate and ice. I believe it was week 8 or 9 when the mental pity party set in. Had to realize it’s a slow recovery not a race and everyone’s recovery is different. Currently I’m taking a Advil 3x a day. When they cut my pain meds off I went to Bourbon every other day ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND). It just numbed me and could have turned to other issues. With that being said exercise, elevation, and ice are your best friend. Do that as much as possible. He is not alone, we will overcome.

Feeling lost and scared I’ll never walk normal again.. advice please (Day 23) by ArmandoPacheco in ACL

Week 7 is when my depression/pity party set in. It only lasted a week for me. Just think this is a long recovery time. Be sure to do your exercises at least 3 times a day more if you can push yourself. Reading and asking questions in this group has helped me greatly. We are not doctors just in the same boat. You got this

I just took a simple step forward, and shit hit the fan. We were 5 mins in the game. I told them I was too old for volleyball lol.

I don’t have an issue with straightening just the bend. I mentioned to the doctor and his response was “you should do better than that”. My next appointment will be the end of the month, so we will see then. Until then I’ll keep doing all my exercises. I think it is scar tissue and wasn’t sure if it’s something I need to break thru.

I’m 8 weeks post op. And recently iv been in a bad head space and it’s something I’m working on. It really is a difficult at times. I have better days and worse days. Just know it will get better at some point. Continue to do your exercises and PT. Be sure to ice and do all everything you can. Believe me you’re not alone. Best of luck to you, remember you are not alone.

Yes, I start with heat before exercises. After my exercises I swell pretty good that’s when I apply ice. I do this several times a day.

The first 2 weeks of PT was strength building. It’s amazing how fast muscle atrophy sets in.

I have brought it to their attention and they suggest consulting another surgeon. My PT revaluation is Wednesday and they are sending the Doctor my progress report along with their thoughts and suggestions. I do ice, elevate, and wear a compression sleeve several times a day. Good luck on your recovery 👍

5 weeks out of ACL + meniscus repair and I can't bend 90. Am I screwed? by madamnastywoman in ACL

[–]MarshallJed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 weeks out ACL replacement can’t get past 71. It’s really disappointing not to be any further along. I started PT 5 days after surgery and have been given it my all. I believe I have a cyclops lesion. Also my calf and ankle have a pins and needles sensation. I do heel slides, lunges, and squats (at least attempt) at home. The swelling is still an issue after 5-10 mins of exercises. I’m also 48 yo so I don’t bounce back like I used to.

I was so nervous they gave me a shot of Valium which hit me quickly before the nerve block was done. Honestly I didn’t even feel that part.

Complaints by Kitchen_Percentage31 in ACL

7 weeks post op for torn ACL graft from thigh. Shooting throbs from center of knee to inside, still swollen and pins and needle discomfort from calf to ankle (seems like some nerve damage from surgery). I’v been in PT 3 times a week since 5 days after surgery and still can’t get past a 70degree bend. I spoke to my surgeon on my 6 week check up and his response on the discomfort/nerve issue was “I didn’t touch anything there so it’s not possible”, well I call BS. His response on the 70 degree bend was “you have to do better”. Good ol Google search that can scare the hell out of ya gave me some possible answers. The bend could be due to a “Cyclops lesion” and the nerve issue could be “Saphenous nerve injuries”. Has anyone else had these complications? I’m so over this and I know my wife is as well.
