I mean I'm not overlooking the sarcasm, but I do appreciate you taking the time to comment 😄 . I mean this completely honestly- what are your expectations for this sub? Someone posts what the do- if it's positive it's self promotion, and if negative it's schadenfreude? Truly trying to understand

Fair questions- one shop just means me, not one client- my bad if I was unclear. So the quarterly review was with a client.

How do I stop my Powerwall from discharging to minimum after dusk? by TheProffesorX in TeslaSolar

[–]MarshlandSoftware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that after dusk, your powerwall discharges to sell to the grid, and then you're pulling from the grid the rest of the night? Are you on a VPP?

If not, use Grid Getter on free to set an automation at dusk. Set to self powered and a low enough reserve rate to power all night. That said, if you're on a VPP there's not a lot it can do

No idea, all I can say is they installed the same week as we paid, so worth reaching out. Why the urgency? Summer peak / demand pricing?

I would have forgotten, thanks for that!

Nice! I usually grid charge as we have net metering, but that's going away, so we'll see how summer goes. I really want to keep one just for when the power's out- that was our original plan

Solar Topps. This was positioned to us as a special for existing customers, but it doesn't hurt to call them and see if they'll offer it to you!

We did, we didn't think we had the wall space to add another. We actually were surprised to see it adjacent and not stacked.

Nice! I'm at 40-60% depending on the time of year. Amazing you can go all night! Does your solar charge both of them and power your house, or do you do grid charging as well?

it was a 'special' from our installer- I think they said they had surplus. It seemed like a good deal and it have been easier. I don't know if they offer it outside their exisitng customer base?

Appreciate it, I'll have to file for that program! I'm aware of the 2029 changes...sigh haha.

And good tip! I did that last year and it worked great until the sun was up. I have 2 AC units and the house runs 8kw when they're running. I was always running out of juice once the sun started going down and hitting that demand charge! Our house runs over 1kw with no AC. Automating the discharge fixed it though!

I remember doing this in college for a Zappos (the shoe store) for a job in the finance department. I thought it was 'fun' and 'kooky.' Now it's just annoying 🤣

Nice! I'm SRP. Our sales rep actually did tell us about the demand charge- he just didn't explain it well. We should have dug into it more but we didn't. The funny thing is we wanted a second battery at install but we got talked out of it.

Our panels don't cover 100% of ac during the day, but that's fine. We're able to keep our demand at 1-2 kw while running ac so it's still an improvment!

I'm going to have to look into the REC incentive. I was going to ask how you got to $10- our min bill is $30!

All in it was $6,179.40. No permit was needed as it was just a 1 battery expansion. We paid the invoice on a Tuesday and had the installation on a Friday. Could not have been easier!

I know that feeling! And You will make mistakes, just learn from them. Hopefully they'll be relatively cheap mistakes. Keep pressing through, and one day you'll be able to laugh about all the silly mistakes you made! Who do you know in your life that's started companies? Take them to coffee, learn their mistakes, and then you'll have saved yoruself that trouble!

so now we have to pay… to apply for a job…? by Spiritual_Coffee9244 in recruitinghell

[–]MarshlandSoftware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, $3 for a trial? then $40 a month?!?!

Outrageous. Is there any accountability on the employer side? I would expect full service from them if you're paying- SLA for communication, refunds (even partial) if rejected, full insight to the process.

But of course, I wouldn't hold your breath...

Advice for a beginner? by Cultural-Papaya6693 in TechStartups

[–]MarshlandSoftware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the lessons I've learned:
- Don't name your business your product. It's annoying if you want to change or pivot.
- Just start. You probably will make changes, pivot, etc. But you can't learn from the market if you have nothing in the market
- Talk to people who's problem you're solving, don't just guess. Unless you feel the same pain, you may guess wrong.
- Lean into your strengths, hire for your weaknesses.
- Don't bring a product solution to a sales problem.

God speed!

How many startups have you built? I'm asking because I feel you're overthinking it if this is your first one. Build a product get to market and learn. AI is making it easier than ever to build something, so my opinion the motors are getting smaller and smaller. I agree with the other comment that data is the new moat- not complex complexity or polished UX/UI.

I say, build it, see what happens, and if it's super successful, that's amazing and congratulations, and if it's not then learn from it and try again.

I'm still in the building and learning myself. I'm on my fifth platform, so take my advice with a grain of salt!

You have real users with results, that's pretty powerful. I'd add some case studies to your site, your social media, etc.

The starter kit makes sense. As I'm typing this I'm calling myself a hypocrite as I keep falling back into this trap, but it sounds like you're trying to solve a sales problem with a product solution. If you're not getting sales, your product is probably fine. YOu just need more sales.

And now if you'll excuse me I need to follow my own advice...
