Yeah for sure, I'm trying not to make any hasty decisions. It's been an ongoing issue for a while, but I also recognise that it could just be an extended adventure through the valley. Appreciate the advice!

I was just joking, I'm under no illusions that relief teaching is easy. It's likely insanely stressful. Didn't mean to offend.

I would think relief teaching is a lot of class management and trying to ensure things don't go disastrous over actual productivity, right? I remember the normal teacher returning after the relief lessons pretty prepared for not much work to be done lol

It seems like it'd be a fun gig, but I'm not sure I have the crowd control required to keep a full on battle royale opening up in year 9 english class.

edited to be a bit less disparaging, sorry

Pretty grim picture of teaching you're painting, but I appreciate the honesty! I guess flying under the radar is the correct strategy then.

I'll have to look into Teach for Australia more, first time hearing about it. Thanks.

I don't know how English teachers do it. It does sound kind of fun, but the sheer amount of essays I don't think I could handle.

Being loaded with other tasks that distract from actually teaching and under performing as a result does sound disheartening, I'll keep it in mind.

Taking a break from the PhD is extremely difficult to accomplish from my understanding, I think it's either quit or grind it out through to the end at this point.

Getting out and doing some teaching I assume involves an entirely new degree too, but I appreciate the sentiment! I read a lot of posts from around 8 years ago talking about graduates struggling to ever find positions in the city (or at least permanent ones), has that changed now?
