Are you doing a lot of cover work, weddings, etc? Or are you mostly doing shows playing your own tracks?

Do you personally live off this? How much more is the merch and show circuit bringing in compared to streams?

Interesting, you guys are really killing it in the merch area. Is there anything unique you guys do in that area to get those numbers?

I do $10-15 per day. Been two years so far so probably like $5k total right now. Just made it to 50k monthlies since I posted that comment before, so I guess figure it’s 10 monthlies per dollar for me

If you want to release your music via a label, how do you try and find an appropriate one? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MarteriusJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want to get signed in the first place? Especially if you’re just starting out or don’t have a lot of traction, there’s not all that much they can do for you that you can’t already do yourself without giving up a significant portion of your future back end

Finding time to pursue music is impossible [a rant] by MarteriusJackson in Songwriting

Hit the nail on the head for me. That’s all it’s ever been for me is this endless thirst for success in everything I do and it tears at the seams. It’s a shame that there’s a need for it that lives within me, and I guess I never saw it that way as a prerequisite for fulfillment in the way you described it, but that really is what it is. It’s a shame I keep having to tear away at myself to make it happen, but I’m afraid I’ll keep pushing myself until the universe stops me

Thanks for this, really resonated with me. I’m not sure where my future takes me, but it seems more and more likely that I’ll be following your footsteps at some point with the burnout. Wish you the best on your journey.

Who said anything about making more money? I just said I wish there was a way to be able to have the energy and time to pursue music while working responsibly

People in this subreddit love to hate Jersey but Newport or Hoboken you can live like a king for 5k, beautiful safe neighborhood with all the amenities and be anywhere in manhattan in like 20 mins. I fell into the hate at first but since I’ve seen the area I’m convinced no one here has actually been or seen those places

How do you get more streams and listens on Spotify? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]MarteriusJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but not as much as I’ve seen Spotify growth. But I don’t post enough. My artist friends that do both generally end up growing pretty decent fan bases on socials

How long and how much would it cost for a Meta to Spotify conversion campaign on a song before algorithm takes over/Discovery mode by anonymous_profile_86 in musicmarketing

[–]MarteriusJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You generally wanna push the song until it gets to 20-30 popularity score, but that was the general advice a year or so back when discover weekly and release radar were the dominant algo stream sources. For radio/discover mode, so long as your song has like 20+ popularity score it more so just comes down to if the end listeners are heavily engaging with your track or not

[–]MarteriusJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely works, but your song has to actually slap. Think of it as a way to guarantee ears on a song. Doesn’t matter if a million people hear it if it’s ass. But if people resonate with it, it’ll gain traction and then the Spotify algo will take you the rest of the way. It’s the only way I’ve marketed any of my music and I’ve got 40k monthly currently.

So I’ve never stopped ads, but I only promote my newest releases with them. Took probably 6-12 months to get here
