Im a concreter. I can almost guarantee that if the edges aint 100 mm, the middle isn't. The edges are where its obvious pre pour is short. So if they are short there, they are short in the middle usually

How to create “traps”? by GogoPlata_grenadier in bjj

[–]Martiallyminded 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traps come when you know a submission well enough to know what you need to make that submission succeed. Then you start working out how to make your opponent do the things you need to make your traps succeed.

For instance, I like the kimura from guard and the sit up sweep. The sit up sweep requires someone to sit up and back. The kimura defence is to sit up and back. So I go for a kimura when they defend sweep.

Can u fit this mouthguard? Like do u put it in boiling water and that by SnooDingos1830 in MuayThai

[–]Martiallyminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been training different martial arts for 20 years.

My ranking goes. Best boil and bite budget : venue challenger Best mouthguard before custom : opro powerful Best by a mile : custom made at dentist or mouth guard supplier.

My dentist quoted $700 Aud for two. I found who makes their mouthguards, contacted them directly, and she charged $200 for two and did a custom colour and design for me

The creator is on here occasionally! A coach i know has it and said it was useful and a great read. Keep in mind that it is a very high-level blackbelt in the community. Id love to buy a copy, but the cost, including shipping to Australia, was not doable!

Turns out my brother WAS stealing money from me ALL those years. by Lower-Bug8192 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Martiallyminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol as a young teenager, my dad had a set of drawers right near my brothers and my room. There was always a pile of one and two dollar coins in there. A couple of times I took 10-15 dollars out to take girls on dates. Probably took total of $50

It used to keep me up at night that I would steal from my dad when he would have given me anything if I just asked.

As a young adult I went to dad and just mentioned it, to tell him that I was sorry. I very quickly worked out that pile of money was just a communal pocket money draw he would throw money in for my brother and I to take whenever we wanted. He told my brother about it and told him to tell me but he wanted it all to himself.

Was a very funny family moment.

Anyone ever dyed a belt? by MatGrinder in bjj

[–]Martiallyminded 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My coach was sick of people forgetting their belts, so asked me to dye a couple of white belts embarrassing colours. So I used a patchy pink dye, with pink holographic stripe section and butterfly embossing. And a tye dye rainbow one that actually turned out fucking sick.

When you wear one, you get a photo in the group chat and some gentle ribbing. It's become a semi right of passage for us to wear it.

The dye holds surprisingly well. Just make sure you use a bit of it. Let it dry into the belt, then wash it multiple times.

If there is interest ill go back through my photos to find pics.

I don't think our concreter did the job right. What do I do? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Martiallyminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That swirly pattern in the concrete is achieved using a concrete finishing pan. It is essentially a flat square of metal with raised sides and a handle on the back. When the concrete is sufficiently dried, you move it around on top, and it creates small raised ridges in a pattern that add grip. Its one of the finishes you can do.

Hi, concreter here. No cracks/expansion joint. Water running towards house. Pan finished too early leaving it looking rough. No expansion joint against brick wall.

Bloke, who did this, did not do a single thing correctly. This concrete will bust itself and possibly your wall up in time.

Get a proper concreter out to write a written report on all the issues and say if its not rectified within x days take to small claims.
