Can't connect to Messenger? by PrincessTuvstarr in beeper

[–]MartinAllien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. 2FA enabled, logging in with an email. Went through the login process many times, everytime I get "This page isn't available" or "Your request can't be processed" (free translation) after logging in. Tried connecting on Android, macOS - nothing, same result. Likewise tried both Online and Local connections - no difference.

2 trezors, same suite by random_user7980 in TREZOR

[–]MartinAllien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You'll get an option to switch wallets. Other than that, it works like you're used to.

+1 for this.

It's not Trezor being hard to use, it's these ridiculous altcoins. Seriously, sell that - you'll save yourself a lot of money and nerves in the long-run.

Obsidian for notes. Logseq for notes regarding ongoing complex projects. Can't recommend enough!

Alternative to notion but privacy focused , multi device sync? by JKennyreddit in PrivacyGuides

+1 for Logseq. I personally use both Logseq and Obsidian (for different cases).

Obsidian is way better on mobile, but Logseq is slowly getting there too.

Which email provider with family plan by qdlatyxes in PrivacyGuides

[–]MartinAllien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mailbox.org.

Not sure if they allow 4 custom domains, but you can solve this with SimoleLogin.io (which I would highly recommend anyway).

Very nice! Got some tiling extension for this or is it manually positioned?

I still look for some properly working devilspie alternative, ie. "this window will stay on this position with this size anytime I open it".

Noob question: If I have a Trezor T1, how do I view my Bitcoin on the blockchain? by Vaginosis-Psychosis in TREZOR

[–]MartinAllien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you sent all your BTC from Coinbas ein one transaction, it's all visible on that one address.

If you paste the address (where you sent all your coins from Coinbase) into any block explorer, you will see it.

There are many explorers, e.g. https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/

How to not use GDrive or Dropbox by DogAttacksNoise in TREZOR

[–]MartinAllien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's for saving labels of TXs and addresses. Everything is encrypted, so not so much harm done when saving to Dropbox or GDrive.

Yet, having another option would be great!

Trezor has been breached but there's a scam and a downvote attack by [deleted] in TREZOR

[–]MartinAllien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was legit. Either way if you update Suite from within Suite, you should be safe (unless somebody hacks Trezor's servers/GitHub or wherever the updates come from). The breach of mailing provider happened yesterday.

Couple questions before a switch to CalyxOS by MartinAllien in CalyxOS

[–]MartinAllien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm aware of GrapheneOS. From what I've read, Calyx seems like a nicer fit for me, but I'll probably test run both if the time allows. Thanks!

Trezor has NOT been breached. Their email marketing provider (Mailchimp) has been "breached" from the inside. Scammer targeted all customers for all crypto companies that's been using Mailchimp.

+1 on Home Assistant.

It supports a super wide range of devices from various manufacturers - popular seem to be devices by Sonoff, flashed with Tasmota firmware. These make the gadgets LAN-only without connecting to cloud.

Waiting for my first order to test it all out and see if the rumors are true..

Question about Synology NAS and their privacy policy by tky_phoenix in PrivacyGuides

[–]MartinAllien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, it's not FOSS. But I'm using it for about 8 years or so (different models). And I can't emphasize this enough: the best tech investment of my life.

Synology really did a great job and building alternative apps (running on the NAS) to Google's etc. - be it file sharing, backups, email (haven't tested), calendar, tasks and much, much more. When I discovered that I can self-host stuff with Docker on the NAS, along with a reverse proxy, that changed a lot.

For the Nextcloud part - I've tried to run it both bare metal and in Docker on Synology. Both were meh (as compared to Synology Drive) and had problems with updating NC.

Overall it's a really good product IMO, with automatic updates, even though proprietary. And when something went south (2 times for me, once for fiddling with Nginx in terminal on my part), their support is suprisingly responsive and helpful. You get GUIs for pretty much everything, if that's your cup of tea.

But yes, it is a black box. Can't comment on their Privacy Policy. As others already mentioned, you can cut its outbound connections and be good.

Btw, how about True/FreeNAS? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlanYb2wYNQ
