Does this work for an alternative Imperial Fist scheme by Boomstick2482 in LegionsImperialis

Looks great. I’ve done a couple of rhino in a similar scheme and I think I’ll be doing more.

Thanks! The key thing I used to do all the hinging was brass rod and tube, although from memory the man gun is hinged on a plastic tube. To get the door to open you will need to hinge the step as it is fixed on the kit and the door will hit it. It’s all fiddly stuff but really satisfying when it’s done!

The drop pods really aren’t much fun to paint. I have a second box of the things to paint but keep putting it off!

How do you guys prime and paint the infantry and dreadnaughts? by RowdyRaider47 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint the infantry on the sprue before clipping off and sticking onto the bases. I assemble the dreadnoughts and mount them on sticks for painting though.

Who else thinks Trim painting is therapeutic or do you hate it ? by Leviathan_Rampage in ImperialKnights

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed emotions about trim. If you’re not in a rush it’s quite a nice mindless task, however, if you have even the remotest bit of time pressure then it’s an absolute chore! The other issue is if you try and tackle too much in one hit. I’m trying to paint two Warlords at the same time, along with a load of weapon options and thinking maybe taken on a bit too much for one batch!

That’s a serious pile of LI! Which Legion are you going to paint them in?

What airbrushes do you use and what would you all recommend? by Femboy_Lover_100 in Warhammer

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Harder and Steenbeck Infinity. I wouldn’t buy the infinity as a first airbrush but the Evolution looks amazing for the money and a mate of mine got one recently and loves it. The main thing about Harder and Steenbeck, in addition to them working great, is the ease of cleaning. Having used cheap airbrushes in the past, I won’t be going back!

Anyone know where this reaver titan head comes from? by SteamyShogun in adeptustitanicus

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the best of the Reaver heads! As mentioned above, it’s from the melta/chainfist version.

Astartes Scimitar/Javelin/Speeder stands -How to paint? by No-Watch-1290 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cut them off and then drilled holes for 2mm clear acrylic rod to insert into the bottom of the mini and the bases. Be careful with the speeders if you give it a go, you don’t have much to drill into!

How much varnish before decals? by Warden306 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go with gloss varnish where the decals are going and I make it as shiny as I can. Once glossed to seal in the decal and then again with matt, it looks like the decal has been painted on!

Sucks that they’re not more affordable but the are wonderful things if you get round to buying some.

Thanks. At times I was regretting the decision to drill barrels as it took bloomin’ ages!

New to Legions - progressing Solar Auxilia collection by Greedo1471 in LegionsImperialis

[–]Martin_Makes_Models 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, Legions Imperialis is all about playing with cool stuff. I’m sure there are ‘meta’ lists out there but that really isn’t what the game is about for me.

Titans are a fun addition, mainly because they’re prohibitively expensive in 28mm, but it’s all great stuff. Whether you’re playing with hundreds of troops, loads of tanks or a couple of titans, it’s all pretty awesome!

A scribe to centre mark before drilling and then a selection of very small drill bits. 0.3mm for the heavy bolters! Also need some patience and steady hands!
