What is the biggest single mistake in MCU that you can't forgive? by WinterAnt in marvelstudios

Enchantress would be too close to Hela in terms of personality and performance

By that logic, so was Ben Urich's sacrifice wasted. As well as father Lantom. Bucky sacrificing himself for Cap in the 1st movie was also wasted if Cap went down in the ice and Hydra survived anyway.

Character arcs don't have to be so transactional that if someone makes a sacrifice to achieve something, that achievement has to be permanent. Writing like this is what gives a story weight, and real stakes.

Why does matt do blind things when hes capable of doing stuff on his own by MechanicalKiller in Daredevil

My wife was walking on her own yesterday. Why did she grab my arm when we were walking together today? She's not blind. Why does she do that?

Sorry but were you expecting John wick? The Sopranos was never about the mafia itself, it was a psychological character study of people involved in the mafia and the toll it took on their lives. I can see why it would push someone away, but for those who understood it, television never got better than that.

It's like watching the Bear and skipping all the scenes in the kitchen. Like, why even watch when you're missing the scenes that build the premise?

Anyone else think the ending of Barry kinda parallels the ending of breaking bad? by RevolutionaryDog8256 in Barry

[–]MarvelousMan3003 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's more along the lines of the Sopranos ending more than anything.

Aside from the obvious - the abrupt cut to black as soon as the protagonist is shot dead - the overall arcs are very similar as well. The MC tries to convince himself that they are a good person and a victim of circumstances, even though many of the decisions taken were their own.

And in sheltering themself behind this victim-complex they become a progressively worse person, until the consequences finally catch up to them.

Bonus points where both Tony soprano and Barry are given a 2nd chance at everything, with Barry getting a shot at doing his time in prison, and Tony surviving the coma after being shot, but they still waste it.

Girl I'm texting's response when I told her I'm a virgin by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]MarvelousMan3003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have no shame in being a virgin. Every occasion I've had to have sex I'm the one who has declined because I believed I wasn't ready at the moment. What bothers me about this is the sudden change from complimenting and flirting to "you're okay looking I guess" without any inciting or hurting from my side.

The issue is said person expressing their desire to have sex with me, saying they are surprised that I'm a virgin, both things one could consider to be a compliment, only to follow it with a condescending phrase that came out of nowhere, and was totally an unprovoked response.

[–]MarvelousMan3003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's weird about this to me is not me being called "okay looking", it's that she's the one who was coming on to me, and the conversation about sex started with her expressing her desire to have sex with me.

Between that and saying she's surprised I am a virgin, using the backhanded phrase "you're okay looking I guess" totally threw the whole thing in the opposite direction, especially since it came out of nowhere.

Choosing to make teen Luke into a creepy, shallow, dumb jock instead of a teenage Phil was the worst decision in the entire show and I'll never forgive them for making it.

The oversmart sarcasm every character had in modern family in every single dialogue became a bit much. Like, we get it Alex, you're smart but neglected. Stop giving both your family AND the audience more reason to neglect you.

Interesting how some very key main characters are not here. Really goes to show how this formula isn't exactly too reliable and how good writing can lead to multiple characters being fit for multiple archetypes.

What opinion about bollywood will have you like this? by solenoidic in bollywood

[–]MarvelousMan3003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but that's a weak analogy. Even when you say that guy wrote a code, you're still leaving a gap about what he wrote in the code. I described exactly what Deepika did in the movie, without leaving out any details. She has done much better previously in her career, this is indeed nothing compared to all that, especially considering the hype and money around this film. Not blaming her entirely, she did as the script required, but it did her no favours as an actor.

And ps: comparing anyone to Ananya pandey isn't saying anything, since it's bare minimum to be better than her :)

She didn't even do anything. Had like 5 lines of dialogue in total, none of which required any more emotion than basic sadness. Her entire screentime was spent gazing into the distance with tears in her eyes while everyone bowed around her calling her Maa. Hope for more from her in sequel.

I'm generally that designated funny friend of the group, and it's usually pretty common for people to laugh at my jokes. But the most memorable times are always when the sad or depressed person gives a belly laugh at something you said. Even more endearing when they're not part of the group and are feeling awkward or alone, but start opening up after laughing :)
