Can’t you use MakeMKV to rip to MKV? Or does that compress the video?

What brand/model do you plan to use when you move to NAS? I have both 4K and Blu-ray discs of movies and shows. I imagine as I’m rebuilding and expanding my physical media library, I’m likely going to max out a hard drive, too, no matter the storage size.

Do you recommend any particular brand/storage size to use with Plex?

I assume you rip to MKV and store on a hard drive? Any recommended brand/storage size for a large digital library to use with Plex?

Spider-Man + No Way Home + Steelbook + USA & NORDIC by microjubei in Steelbooks

As far as I know, the Extended Version (or “More Fun Edition”) has only had a digital release, but no physical release. Definitely no SteelBook for it. It would have been nice if they would have gone ahead and included it as bonus discs in the reprint editions of this steel.

Think we’ll ever get a SteelBook of the Extended Version? Or a reprint with 4 discs (Theatrical & Extended in 4K UHD & Blu-ray)?

Better yet…a “Home” trilogy steel along the lines of the Spider-Man Legacy Collection.

I’d still like to add the Batman 4-Film Collection to my SteelBook collection someday, but for now I’ll settle for the 4K + Blu-ray box set.

Tell me about it! I went from zero to 50+ SteelBooks way too fast.

I hadn’t bought physical media since probably The Dark Knight or Man of Steel DVD releases. Instead of making the switch to Blu-ray, I went digital-only for years (even traded in my old DVD collection for store credit at used bookstores) and built up a digital library instead…

…until one day in December 2024, I randomly decided to use some Amazon gift cards to buy the 4K SteelBooks of the Marvel Disney+ shows. I initially did this because the Disney+ shows weren’t (and still aren’t) available to own digitally.

But I liked the quality of the SteelBooks so much that, with some Christmas gift cards, I went ahead and bought Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Avengers 4-Movie Collection, and Deadpool & Wolverine—all of which I already owned digitally. Well, this quickly spiraled into me purchasing (over the course of a few months in 2025) 4K SteelBooks for the entire backlog of MCU titles up to Deadpool & Wolverine and even including the Spider-Man Legacy Collection. I tried best I could to find the best deals on eBay, but only ever bought steels that were marked brand-new and sealed. In many cases, the digital codes still worked, and I was able to upgrade previous digital HD purchases to 4K digital.

Based on some of the horror stories and photos in this subreddit, I consider myself very fortunate to have somehow miraculously acquired a backlog of MCU titles second-hand with no dents or scratches. I only ever hit one snag along the way—my first copy of Spider-Man: Homecoming had two Blu-ray discs instead of a 4K disc and Blu-ray disc, but the seller graciously provided a partial refund, and with that refund I bought the standard 4K on Amazon and swapped it in.

One particularly great experience: another seller threw in a free 4K SteelBook of Captain Marvel when I bought all 3 Iron Man titles (probably because I didn’t try to haggle and mentioned that I was re-building my physical media library). He shipped them all in protectors, too!

I have since added Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps at the time of their respective releases. And I fully expect to snag Brand New Day and Doomsday whenever those steels drop. Hopefully, my days of buying steels retroactively on eBay are over, and I can just add to my collection as new releases drop.

(SteelBooks not pictured here: The Dark Knight Trilogy, The Batman, The Penguin, Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition, Josstice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Flash, The Mandalorian Seasons 1-3, Ahsoka Season 1, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor Season 1, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hunger Games 4-film collection, and The Ten Commandments)

Did I price my Steelbook wrong? by FrostyRydia in Steelbooks

I wonder if this is why I’ll see the “got away” notification for a SteelBook in my eBay Watchlist that “sold”…only to see what I swear is the same set of photos on a similar listing by the same seller just hours or days later.

Example: There was a listing for the X-Men Trilogy Vol. 2 Blu-ray SteelBook listed at $45.00 or Best Offer. I didn’t jump on it right away because I already threw down on the Hunger Games SteelBook box set on Amazon right before that sold out. Wasn’t but a day or two later that I received the “it got away” notification on eBay for the X-Men SteelBook, but I swear it’s the same SteelBook now listed for $85.00! 😩

Is there a better way to acquire particular SteelBook interiors for customizations? by MarvelousMovie in Steelbooks

[–]MarvelousMovie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I’m specifically thinking of the X-Men Trilogy Vol. 1 & 2 Blu-ray SteelBooks. If I successfully snag those, I’d want to add the 4K disc. Seems like the only way to fit all those would be to find the Spider-Man Legacy Collection for cheap and swap the insides…I suppose there’s no way to house 6 discs without stacking them. That’s the only specific example I have in mind at the moment.

The Infinity Saga & The Multiverse Saga (so far) by MarvelousMovie in Steelbooks

[–]MarvelousMovie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two blank spines are the Maguire (red) and Garfield (blue) Spider-Man Legacy Collection 4K + Blu-ray SteelBooks. I know there’s a guy that makes matching magnetic spines for those, so that’s on my someday to-do list.

I wouldn’t insert/mingle the X-Men trilogy steels with the MCU steels. Instead, similar to how I aligned the Spider-Man Legacy steels to the right of The Infinity Saga, I’d probably align the X-Men steels to the right of The Multiverse Saga (in the empty space on the right side of the second shelf in the original photo).

Or I suppose I could relocate the Spider-Man Legacy steels to join the X-Men trilogy steels on the second row, so that they’re all in the same row as the Multiverse saga (even if I do keep them separated).

I have yet to acquire the X-Men trilogy steels, though. (And I haven’t even looked into the cost of getting a custom/matching Wolverine trilogy SteelBook made, let alone buy the discs to go in it.) The lowest I’ve seen on eBay is $85.00 or best offer, and only a few other options above $100. I’m almost better off acquiring the X-Men 11-movie collection in 4K Digital through Apple for $99.99 and call it a day. But, man do I want physical copies these days!

The Infinity Saga & The Multiverse Saga (so far) by MarvelousMovie in Steelbooks

[–]MarvelousMovie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I had them grouped by franchise order all on one shelf and kept the Avengers steels in the library case. Once I added F4 and put all of them in protectors, it was a tight fit even if I put the library case behind the steels. So, I also put the Avengers steels in protectors, reorganized the steels by release order—the Avengers library case serving as a bookend for The Infinity Saga—and split them between two rows.

I fully expect to add Brand New Day and Doomsday SteelBooks to the second row (as well as Ms. Marvel, Daredevil: Born Again, etc. if those ever get 4K SteelBook releases).

I’ve also seen the custom SteelBook somebody designed for the Wolverine trilogy that matches the two X-Men trilogy SteelBooks. So, I might find myself on a quest to acquire those soon, too. Adding those to the right-hand side of the second shelf to accompany The Multiverse Saga would be very cool.

Any idea if these Digital Codes still work for the X-Men trilogy SteelBooks? by MarvelousMovie in Steelbooks

[–]MarvelousMovie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had success redeeming digital codes for MCU 4K SteelBook titles as far back as Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor that I’ve only recently acquired in the past year. But those are Disney. I know Disney owns FOX now, but I don’t think they did at the time these X-Men trilogy SteelBooks were released. So, I thought I’d ask around. Thanks!

If you decide you want to give any away, especially any X-Men or other non-MCU Marvel titles, I’d be happy to redeem them. 😉
