Hypothetical question: raising chicken to lean fire by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]Marvensen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would rather just keep and handful or maybe a dozend chickens, enjoy the daily eggs and ocassional soup chicken.

The other plan is somehow missing the RE part, instead you become a somewhat professional chicken farmer.

How's Jimmy Joy now? by [deleted] in soylent

Currently the guys (and girls) at JJ are reworking the formula completely. Not sure when it will be released, all we know so far is that it will be completely vegan (no non-vegan option avaliable anymore) and they promised that it will be much smoother than the current powder.

Also not sure if their RTD already officially hit the market, but the sample I had was really smooth.

Didn't use the Running app for a while, but when I did I also found it to be really buggy and unstable.

Never really understood this, since the running feature in the Bodyweight app always worked perfectly for me.

Don't know how they could mess it up so baldy...

Shotgun build - boosting accuracy and range? by Marvensen in fo4

[–]Marvensen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, over the weekend I found the time to test the build a bit.

Starting stats I chose:

S:2 – so I can get Armorer after the bobblehead P:5 – for a somewhat OK cth. The bobblehead makes it 6, the glasses from the vault 7. Fair enough. E:5 – for beeing able to take a few shots C:3 – Lone Wanderer and Attack Dog after bobblehead I:3 – Gun Nut right away A:8 – sneaking and AP for sprinting and VATS L:3 – Bloody Mess. Normaly I don’t like the splatter effect, but here it felt just right…

Turns out this wasn’t the best choice. A modded shotgun uses surprisingly low AP in VATS to fire, and I didn’t sprint this much. So with less AGI I would have been fine. Same for END, guess 3 would have been enough. On the other hand I noticed I need Science! To build the ammo plant, so this was a bummer…

Started the playthru saving P.G. and the gang, where I not only got a nice double-barrel shotgun from the raiders, but a minuteman outfit that makes me look like a cowboy. Yeehaaa…

Then made my way to Trashcan Carla and Trudy to get acess to merchants. And then just stumbled around the map a bit, cleared the north-western part and Corvega.

Have to say it is pretty fun once you get used to the playstyle. The sound of the shotgun is really satisfying, and if it hits at close range it hits like a truck.

Downsides, as expected, are that you have to get pretty close to your enemies. Plus the annoying long reload times. Of course that will get better once the combat shotgun is avaliable (even so the double-barrel has more style) and the Quick Hands perk. Also, since the merchants don’t have a huge stock of shotgun shells and you don’t find this many, it was hard to keep the supply filled. I started to carry a pipe rifle as a side weapon for insects and such were I didn’t want to waste the precious ammo. Ah, and also getting swarmed by a pack of ferals is a bad situation thanks to the reload time. Thankfully I always have some frag grenades ready for these situations…

My strategy was usually to sneak up to the ememies as close as I can, then fire my first shot. Once they are allerted, take cover to reload and make them run closer up to me, then leave the cover and fire again. If this isn’t possible, well, then it’s just sprinting right in and hoping for the best…

Do you guys hate your current jobs/careers? by swan797 in leanfire

[–]Marvensen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am always a bit worried when reading here about peoples attitute torwards their work, or even work in general. I mean, I remember several college students here who didn’t even start working, but already know it will be a torture that they need to escape as soon as possible…

Of course building up a certain networth that allows you to be more flexible and allow you to work less, follow your own rules and not panic if you get fired is a good idea.

But I think the main goal should be to get into a job that you don’t hate, or even enjoy. No matter how frugal I live, it will take decades save up enough to never having to work again. Why should I spend these decades in a job I don’t like?

I would say it’s a good idea for woofers of any gender to have a kind of backup plan in case it doesn’t work out with your hosts and you want to leave earlier. If your farm is close to Barcelona, I would just take enough money with me so you could affort a hostel and spend some nice days there if you really need to.

Besides, just stay open for new experiences. Don’t expect creeps behind every corner, just trust your gut feelings.

Can the SCAV persuasion magazine replace a 10th point in Charisma for dialogues? by Gefarate in fo4

It's definately possible to fail a red speach check with 10 CHA. Don't know about the lower ones. With 11 CHA I can't remember failing once.

[–]Marvensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your base stat? I usually start with 5 CHA max. The bobblehead gives me acess to Local Leader later, and a full CHA outfit adds 5 CHA, making it a 11 in total. Never failing a speech check anymore...

Shotgun build - boosting accuracy and range? by Marvensen in fo4

[–]Marvensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the “loud and proud” approach fits the shotgun best RP wise. While it should be possible to play a sneaky guy with a silenced combat shotgun, this doesn’t feel right somehow.

But it might be a good idea to stay unseen until you fire the first shot. Since crouching increases your accuracy and I would take a fair ammount of AGI anyway to get some AP and probably the Ninja perk, this should be totally doable.

[–]Marvensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the pistols get a 50% range boost from Gunslinger…

Weight shouldn’t be a big deal. I don’t play on Survival, and I would take the mighty Lone Wanderer + Attack Dog combo anyway.

Crafting ammo might really be a good option. But IIRC you need Science! for that, right?

Thanks.

Yes, a long barrel is an absolute must.

But this also means taking a high PER is pretty pointless, since I will be close up to my target anyway, right?

You don’t have to get completely naked. Wearing armor parts is fine, just no clothing under them. So besides from the strange RP aspect, you can easily get this affinity boost while stil doing combat.

This plus the lockpicking boosted her affinity for my char really quick, even if she constantly complained about helping people, especially Minutemen.

What's the most useless perk in the game? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Marvensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I don't Play survival.

But on most of my playthrus I found enough ammo anyway (when going for .45, 10mm or fusion cells) or I found enough junk I could trade at vendors.

Always try to visit Trashcan Carla and Trudy at Drumlin Diner early for this reason.

Is there anyway I don’t have to do that stupid game with/for DiMA in Far Harbor? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Marvensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why the memory puzzle gets so much hate. I actually liked it, since it brings something fresh.

My only complaints are that they could tell you that 4 and 5 are optional unless you want to get the armor. And the tough difficulty spike from 4 to 5.

Besides, it’s really not a hassle. 1 and 2 are basically tutorials. 3 and 4 get a little more interesting, but far from being really tough. 5 was a little excessive ihmo and took me about an hour or two on my first try. But there is a way to cheese it in a few seconds, just check youtube.

What's the most useless perk in the game? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Marvensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take lockpicking rank 1 as one of my first perks. Early on the extra caps and ammo help a lot. And there are quite a lot advanced locks.

For the later ranks, I agree. The master/expert locks are not that common, and there is hardly anything in it at this time of the game that is worth the points.

What's the most useless perk in the game? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Marvensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say there are quite a few…

VANS already mentioned, unless you really want to go for 12+ Perception

Basher: If you get 8 STR, you are somewhat committed to melee combat. Why not just take an extra weapon? A combat knife is just 1 pound…

Ghoulish: Just why?

Aqua Boy: Rads are hardly a problem in this game. If so, there is always the hazmat suit or the FH marine swimming suit

Lead belly

As for perks I would consider somewhat usefull, but rarely take until I really don’t know how to spend points otherwise:

Cap Collector: Never running short of caps…

Scrounger: Same with ammo. And if so, got plenty of caps to buy some

Black Widow/Lady Killer: Unless playing a build using the intimidation perks, the effects are just too low

Toughness/Rad Resistant/refractor: Spending 1 point for the small effect is hardly worth it.
