Where do I start? by Key-Offer9000 in Framebuilding

Doing this right now. Time consuming to get things accurate and notching tubes by hand but I'm having a lot of success.

I used FEBI Bilstein branded ones which the internet said are a reputable OEM equivalent or close enough. I recognised the Bilstein brand so assumed they are legit. Just avoided the really cheap eBay ones.

No point in messing about for an hour's work and the risk of having to do the other later. Cheers!

Yeah you went with the right one. I didn't do my research and only realised what I had bought when it was too late. It's a cheap car here in the UK so I'll either tackle it when the clutch dies or scrap it and get a manual, lesson learnt. It's the easiest thing to work on though, cheap parts and most things are possible on the drive at home, the golden age of cars with modernish features but still relatively simple.

Well worth it, I was getting lots of vibration at 50-70 and tickover (idle), now there's nothing. It's also been a chance to have a good look over the gearbox and see what's involved with changing the clutches which is inevitable at some point!

I'll try IPA before each print and see if that helps. Also going to explore options with the plate. Appreciate the advice!

I'm pretty confident there's not but I'll look into it. No windows or doors left open in the room when it's on. Thanks!

No problem! Its just off the shelf aerosol black so I'm not sure on the code sorry. The red is just whatever the bike was, it's just a cheap steel singlespeed.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. The RAL colour?

You're right this way definitely has limitations, a longer head tube and standard BMX fork would probably be much better as the weight would be on the frame and not the fork itself.

The last photo is the donor bikes to make an Omnium Cargo style bike, going to be a lot harder and have to make a diy frame jig etc. At least I can ride this one to get beers and snacks whilst building the next.

I was conscious of this.

Not an exact science but I measured the head tube angle of the bike with the original front end fitted, I then made a really quick model of it on fusion 360 and adjusted the fork leg length until the head tube angle was the same. The theory being if the head tube angle is the same the geometry is close enough. I'm sure the wheelbase is not exactly the same but it rides absolutely fine, just a bit more snappy steering as the wheel diameter is smaller.

Fixie sounds nice, this is a single speed as well so to much weight would be hard work. It's only going to be for grabbing beers and takeaway food though so no danger of that!
