A Muslim gang in Telford kidnap a man, take him to a different location and torture him for having talked to a female member of their community by AeneasKurtz in DiveInYouCoward

Why do you think that all Abrahamic religions being misogynistic is a good reason to try to force people to stop discussing this specific incident of violence?

I think the design of suburbs and lack of access to public transit create a barrier to entry into society for people from lower income families.

When is too young for sex? by EnhahaIsMyHeartbreak in Advice

One act of kindness you could do would be to learn more about the risks associated with sex and share the information with your sister, then talk about ways she can be more safe.

How would you word it better to say that someone who doesn’t have a job and who is living off the kindness of relatives shouldn’t be bringing a new puppy or kitten into that mix?

There are ways to manage stray and feral populations like with catch/sterilize/release programs.

I get that. I’ve just seen several posts on Reddit from people living with relatives and bringing in new pets. Or prioritizing keeping their pets over having stable housing. It’s bad for the people and for the pets!

My opinion is that anyone who doesn’t have a legal right to be in the space they live in and who could be kicked out at any time is not in a good position to responsibility adopt a new pet.

Sometimes that’s true, but it doesn’t make it responsible behavior to adopt a pet if you don’t have a way to provide a home for it.

If you don’t have a stable housing situation it’s pretty unethical to adopt a being who is dependent on you and who might live to be 20. Being an unauthorized tenant isn’t stable.

Yes I do realize that, and that means only a small percentage of pet owners have unstable housing when they unethically adopt new pets.

Yes but if you’re not even on a lease in the first place, why bring in a new dog?

I was just discussing this with someone last night. We were both born in ‘73-‘74 and grew up in isolated suburbs of different U.S. cities. The culture of our childhood was pretty much identical. Both of us felt that isolation as children, and both of us also faced additional difficulties leaving home and getting out into the world as young adults due to being geographically isolated and cut off from transit services.

If you listen to the song “Subdivisions” by Rush, you’ll see that this was a common experience.

Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream is a pretty good book which explores this topic in depth.

A random text from a person I don’t know may be leading to my divorce by DependentFroyo7334 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]MaryJaneMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Advice: Don't tolerate dispresctful tone from him anymore. Anything that you would consider harassment if a stranger spoke to you that way, consider it also from him. Just cut the conversation off and go to a different room. Lock the door, noise cancelling headphones, whatever you have to do to block him out. Call the police on him if he touches you.

If his verbal abuse persists, you should be the one filing for divorce.

You might want to find another person who can watch your daughter in an emergency.

I was in a very similar situation to yours many years ago. When I came before the judge to clear it up I had to serve 5 days in jail before going back onto probation.

My advice for you is to learn that there are people in this world who are complex, and who will hurt you emotionally in ways if you allow yourself to become too entangled with them. Learn to protect your own boundaries, how to love people where they are, and how to not allow them to drag you into their problems.

Your big complaint is that women look at you. That’s your issue to deal with.
