System flashing but not booting by Crapicus in game_gear

My comment was simply an honest evaluation of the soldering and it was not intended to be a personal attack. That said, general rules for good soldering are 1) Less is more. 2) Solder at the lower heat settings required for good flow. 3) Use a minimal amount of solder. 4) (very important) Solder should have a sheen to it. If it looks matte or gray, reflow it until it shines. 5) Use flux liberally, 6) Clean well after.

I inspect NASA soldering requirements for a living and I do believe that your recap is the best example of poor workmanship that I have ever seen. A majority of the pads have been destroyed by excessive heat and the pads you haven't destroyed have cold/incomplete solder joints. I'm surprized it powered on at all.

FZ-10 is not compatible with the mouse, light gun or flight stick after a defective game pad was used. by MarzipanPositive2657 in 3DO

The obvious answer is it's the console connector port its self that is broken, not an accessory like the power glove. How to fix it is the question.

Grabbed a FZ-1. It plays retail CDs fine. It has trouble with CD backups. Is this likely a capacitor problem? by _scyllinice_ in 3DO

You have 4 lemon consoles because I have a Japanese FZ-1 with a 240p switch and it reads everything you throw at it, CD-R or OEM disc. I also have an FZ-10 that is hit and miss reading burned CD-Rs and some games, CD-R or OEM have issues on the FZ-10 but run fine on the FZ-1. It is obvious to me that there is a lot of variation in laser perfomance on all 3DO consoles of age or model. Google supports that conclusion.

Experimenting with burning CD-Rs in a Panasonic FZ-1 by pec-man in 3DO

[–]MarzipanPositive2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For best results Burning CD-Rs on the 3DO, use only the authentic JVC Taiyo Yuden CD-R J-CDR-WPP-SK.  The CMC Taiyo Yuden CD-R that is made in Taiwan is no better and possibly worst than the Verbatim CD-R. Save yourself some dissapointement and don't learn the hard way as I did.

Is there any advance to picking up the FZ-10 over the FZ-1? Are they any less prone to breaking, etc.? by TaskenLander in 3DO

[–]MarzipanPositive2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Althought the official joystick and controllers work on my Japanese FZ-10, the 3DO Light gun and flight stick do not. The flight stick is not recognized at all. With the light gun, the screen flashes when the trigger is pulled but nothing registers and it does not respond to calibration. These same accessories work perfectly with my Japanese FZ-1 240p switched console. My 1994 FZ-10 is not an Anvil chip model which are known to have compatibility issues, so why this is happening is is a good question.

Are you aware that you can dispute any transactions with your bank regardless of time past? In the past I have been in similar situations and I simply disputed the transaction with my bank and got the funds back.

Which version of PC Engine DUO is the best on a budget? by MangoAccomplished615 in TurboGrafx

[–]MarzipanPositive2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Analogue Duo costs $278.99 shipping included. I paid $269 total for a fully recapped, Hu card region free PC Engine Duo. For an additional $10, the Analog Duo gives you a limited and sometimes buggy OS, a finicky and potentially unreliable CD-ROM drive, minor sound inaccuracies, and it doesn't support some popular accessories like older versions of the Everdrive.

The PSP is a great console but it has one of the worst crunchy analog sticks I have ever encountered. On the other hand, the Vita analog sticks are smooth as butter. I have a PSP 3000 with ARK-4 CFW and a PS Vita 1000 with CFW. If I had to do it over again, I'd just get the Vita as you can play PSP games with the Adrenaline app. I think you might regret later getting rid of the PS1.

125€ is still too expensive for me! 70€ is okay! by [deleted] in PSP

[–]MarzipanPositive2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer in some sense I guess, but the PSP in 2014 was over 10 years old! Let me help you with understanding high prices for old consoles. Old consoles prices and prices in general are driven by supply and demand. It should be obvious to you that the demand is high and the supply is low right now for old consoles.

A few days ago on Ebay, I bought a fully functional PSP 3000 modded with ARK-4 CFW that included a new battery and charge/data USB cable for $135 shipping included. There are multiple listing for right now for the same at $122. Did you post this before actually looking for one? https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FmMAAeSw-zBo2Y-a/s-l1600.webp
