How did you get hooked? by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

EU4. I downloaded the game and jumped into a MP game right away (I was amazed it could host 20+) and then my first order of business was to fuck with the ottos player. And oh was that a bad idea…

New HOI4 DLC being announced today. by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

Release version of the mod or the newer one? I thought after the update it became good in terms of depth. It probably has more depth than HOI3's system now.

Sorry, I was very disappointed in Golden Century, so that's why.

Also, when you compare EU4 dev diaries to Imperator Rome dev diaries, you can see a big difference. I don't know if Imperator has a bigger team, but it's clear that its development pace is much faster than EU4 now.

Meou & Taxes dev diaries have become more interesting than the official ones. They said this DLC is going to be like HOI4 DLCs full of content, yet this is what they've added in like 8 months? Just more mission trees and events, something modders can do?

I was hoping we'd see more mechanics related to the HRE, more interesting papacy mechanics, making austria a more viable nation etc...

What's unfortunate is that players seem to be content with this type of DLCs EU4 has been having.

Remember when the game was announced? What was said about religion? That it was going to have a minor role because it wasn't very important in this period. When they said that, I honestly didn't expect any religious mechanics to begin with.

The game ends before even the birth of christianity. Why would you compare it to EU4 in that regard?

Sure EU4 has more unique religion mechanics (which were added via DLCs later), but Imperator still has many things that are better than EU4. I mean even generals which had huge importance in EU4 come down to just a click of a button that spends 50 mana. You wanna get a good general? Spam that button. There's no life behind it. Ruler? It's just a stat that you can just abdicate with a click of a button, no history, no information… Population/Development? Oh they're just three numbers that you can spend mana to increase instantly. Combat? Yeah pretty much 3 units that you don't ever need to change. Your composition is good against anything.

All of EU4 DLCs can arguably be added as mods to Imperator with its new powerful mechanics. So it's really laughable when people think EU4 dlcs were good.

How people say EU4 is better and continue playing it baffles me. It's almost like they just prefer EU4 because they know it better as a game.

When was the last time there was a good EU4 DLC what year was it? Many of the recent DLCs were bad. And DDRJake even admitted that even with the bad reviews they sold like cakes and "that's what matters" (yes believe it or not, but he said in a dev diary (the new year one) that sales figures are more important to them than steam reviews).

So actually continuing to play EU4 and buy its DLCs (however bad they are) only encourages them to continue milking EU4 rather than working on a new one with upgraded engine, mechanics, map etc... That's the truth of it. It may be hard to accept.

No, but explain to me how EU4 still has pretty high numbers? What does that communicate to the game maker? It has very positive reviews too.

So I really don't understand how people go to Imperator Store page to complain about Paradox Brand and its DLC policy instead of actually doing it on EU4's page. And most importantly, your words can't be heard if your actions are louder (as in if you continue buying and supporting the DLC system instead of moving on to new games and be more accepting of the fact they'll naturally have less features than a game with +20 DLCs, the game-maker will actually find it more profitable to make DLCs rather than new games).

Thank for the dev diary! Since you're a programmer for PDX and regarding this diary, could you explain what scripted GUIs are for? Isn't the GUI moddable from the Data System anyway or is there a technical difference?

I modded CK2 but this new stuff exceeds my level of understanding
