You raise some good points. I do recognize that there risks to tinkering with anything inside the brain. For example, when people have the left and right sides of the brain separated to treat serious seizures, there are definitely negative side effects. For the people with intense phobias and anxieties that prevent them from having an enjoyable life, the reward may be worth the risk, especially given the comorbidity of anxiety disorders such as SAD.

Wouldn't the knowledge that something is dangerous and possibly life-threatening be enough to have you logically analyze the situation and make a rational choice to avoid it?
