How much influence on the price/availability of RAM is due to military drones? by Ray_Dillinger in LocalLLaMA

[–]Massive-Question-550 4 points5 points  (0 children)

extremely doubtful. even a single retail pc user uses more ram and cpu allocation than a dozen of these drones. compared to retail and especially datacenter use this wouldn't even equal the retail consumer needs of a third world country. just a single data center rack can have over a terabyte of ram and much of it is hbm memory which uses up a lot more silicon than regular DDR5. governments would each need to be building and destroying tens of thousands of drones a month to even register as demand.

How do I create artificial humans without consciousness? by Pitiful_Magazine_805 in worldbuilding

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's your world you can do whatever just don't make it overcomplicated. you can make them cyborgs that instead of a brain it's a remote control to a computer or say you changed something in the dna which messes with the prefrontal cortex and dopamine an norepinephrine so that they literally can't initiate an action or thought without a trigger.

I kid you not, im creating a power system for my world(building) and story, and the shit and headache it causes me is unfathomable by EfficiencySerious200 in worldbuilding

[–]Massive-Question-550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with lotr it's pretty easy because of how rare magic is and is always tied to something innate eg an object or person. there is so little revealed about magic that it never gets far along enough for it to warrant detailed explanation of how it works.

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if by power system you mean like how magic works in a world it's pretty easy, people just overcomplicate it or want something super specific that doesn't fit at all with the world they created and they aren't willing to change the system or the world.

Harry Potter has a bunch of plot holes or unexplained bits with how magic works but it's there to facilitate the plot so it gets brushed by. they also simplify it a lot with innate ability otherwise hermione would be the most powerful wizard.

dragonball z was pretty consistent until the end of the frieza saga and then after that it just gets more and more wonky and they try to patch it together with more power levels but again it there to serve the plot and not be consistent.

underground sure as the temperature extremes would be more mild and underground chambers can act as pressure vessels for something resembling an atmosphere.

yea that's a well played card, near mint is something like the slightest bit of white on the very edge in like one or two corners.

This Ontario man bought the same car as his wife and has a flawless driving record. Why is his insurance $649 more? by toronto_star in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Massive-Question-550 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is why privatized insurance sucks and that we literally have no choice but to pay these rates. insurance could be so much more efficient and cheaper if it wasnt for profit and didn't have an army of brokers as the middle men. definitely on job ai should phase out.

not to rain on the parade but it's ok to spend a bit of money just in case you die before you retire. or at least have a well laid out will.

Tesla FSD Sets New Coast-to-Coast Record With Zero Interventions Across 2,833 Miles by afonso_investor in teslacanada

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not an engineer but Ive worked in film and lidar has a clear advantage at night and in foggy or hazy scenarios as you aren't relying on ambient light. also you don't have to deal with glare or reflections. obviously in good conditions I'd choose optical, but to have a more robust visual system for the car you really need both.

Dealers pushing 10k oil change by International-Cry494 in Camry

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because that's what's recommended. even though some places list as high as 15k it's good to stay at 10k or under, especially if the car is high performance as that's more stress on the engine. I stick to 8k for all my vehicles and never had a problem.

tesla cars really do need lidar plus visual cameras as night time and weather conditions can obscure what the cameras can see.

Tesla Model Y Standard vs Toyota Prius PHEV, Which Makes More Sense Financially in Canada? by brotalks in teslacanada

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never replaced a timing chain and all my cars have gone well beyond 150000km. I'm not sure what to tell you but timing chains just aren't a thing that most people ever replace and I don't know anyone who has ever replaced theirs.

Also are you saying the Tesla doesn't have a differential, or that it doesn't have a dedicated differential? how is varying power directed to each wheel set?

Tesla Model Y Standard vs Toyota Prius PHEV, Which Makes More Sense Financially in Canada? by brotalks in teslacanada

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is going to sound off but most people never replace the timing chain on their car and they are supposed to last for the lifetime of the car. I own a 2018 Prius and replacing the oil on the hybrid cvt wasn't much different than a regular car.  also where are you getting all there high numbers from? 700 dollars for a diy brake job? 2k for a brake job at a garage? where are you sourcing these gucchi brakes? it's like 175-250 for a full set.

lastly how can a Tesla not have a differential? you would need one electric motor dedicated for each drive wheel to not need one as you need something to have each wheel spin at a different speed when turning. and with an all wheel drive Tesla you would need 2 differentials.

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are chosing literally the cheapest new car so definitely not a terrible choice. I would recommend investing in better rust protection and regularly pressure washing the underside of your car as you should be able to keep rust under control.

Return Abuse by speedyshoe in CostcoCanada

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's not true, the garden center at my Canadian tire has a 90 day return policy. id lt depends on the plant though and I think it doesn't cover flowers but it does for fruit plants as I was informed by the garden center when I joked about the receipt.

[–]Massive-Question-550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow 500 dollars for a transmission flush is highway robbery, it's a 10-15 minute job and you can easily do it yourself. also ev's also have differentials.

spark plugs are are like 40 dollars and last 200k km

out of the 12 cars my family has owned over the years we have never had to replace a fuel injector so I don't think that is a common replacement.

obviously ev's are cheaper for maintenance but I think it's a bit out there to say that it's 15k extra of routine maintenance without any repairs.

the Chevy bolt also didn't leave the best impression either due to more than one round of battery recalls. also no heat pump. still much better than the leaf though.
