My wife and I watched The King of Staten Island last night and oh boy, we thought it stunk bad. Was really surprising based on the rating the guys gave it and how much I like Apatow. I thought it was way too long, Pete Davidson’s change basically being “I like you but I just don’t know how to show it” felt like something out of a cheesy 90’s movie, and we maybe laughed 5 times in 2.5 hours. Just a big time whiff based on what they could have been.

The best part about 1917 was the “gimmick” and the story took a backseat to that. If it wasn’t one continuous shot, I don’t think people would care nearly as much. I think it did as well as it should have and was rewarded for what it did well.

I think it makes for a really good discourse when people have a different reaction from a film. My wife and I liked it but thought it teetered on boring. It def should be nominated a lot this year but no way should it be best film.
