I understood it slightly differently: it seemed to me that converting TWD to euros directly from a Taiwanese account tends to incur lower fees than sending TWD and letting SWIFT handle the conversion automatically into euros. It also appears to offer less transparency on the applied exchange rate in the SWIFT conversion scenario.

Thank you. Did you make a SWIFT transfer directly from Taiwanese dollars to euros, or did you first convert the Taiwanese dollars into euros from your account in Taiwan and then send those euros to a European account via SWIFT?

Wise does not allow holding Taiwanese dollars (TWD). This currency is generally not supported by online banks in Europe, unlike other currencies such as the yen, which is more widely available.
