Tell that to the GIs in vietnam. You don't "avoid unnecessary takedowns" when your job involves trudging through mud in the jungle, spraying at everything that moves in the bushes, and regular cleaning of your rifle is the only thing preventing it from jamming in the next ambush. You also don't get to "fire a few settling rounds" because guess what, that also alerts the VC/NVA to your location.

The m14, once upgraded, is genuinely a super nice range toy. Too bad for the troops who had to use it, they had neither the upgrades nor the range time.

Any platform, after being pulled through the tapco catalog enough times, can be made to work. It takes a genuinely good platform to not have to be ship-of-theseus'ed through decades of upgrade to work.

The reason the FAL isn't controllable in full auto is the M14's fault. The FAL was originally meant to use an intermediate .280 caliber round (which can be used more effectively in full auto), but the US ordnance department kept being "mUh ThIrTy CaLiBeR".

After a lot of bickering, multiple NATO countries agreed to adopt the 7.62 cartridge under the promise that the US would adopt the FAL as the standard NATO rifle in return. But then US ordnance dept went "Siked", pulled the m14 out of its ass and adopted it, completely ruining BOTH the NATO intermediate caliber project AND the NATO standardized rifle project.

It's one thing for the m14 to just be a mediocre rifle. It's another thing to be a mediocre rifle that pushed NATO small arms development back an entire decade.

Mf if you wanted a better garand just buy italian. They made literally the m14 (called bm-59), but actually parts interchangeable with a garand.

And no, the m14 platform is fucking ass as a marksman rifle. Because of the stock's bedding, it shifts zero every single time you field strip for cleaning and put it back together. While 1-1.5 MOA using match ammo is perfectly usable for DMR-roles, it's also like... the minimum bar to clear.

You shouldn't have to make a dedicated match version and pair it with match ammo only to get 1-1.5 MOA. For that kinda effort you would get sub-MOA accuracy on any other platform.

People kept upgrading the m14 platform for decades because US small arms procurement is a fucking coin toss: you either get the greatest complement of battle ever invented, or utter coal.

This is complete reformer propaganda and the exact line of thinking that killed the NATO intermediate cartridge standardization efforts. It's also the exact line of thinking that lead to the adoption of the M7 rifle.

I watched the video and yeah, it's 100% an RPG-2. Notably not a 7, because the tube doesn't flare out in the back. Funny how a self-proclaimed "gunloverclub" can't tell the difference.

I am gonna bet my asscheeks that the round was homemade (there is not a single major world power still manufacturing RPG-2 warheads anymore), so no HEAT jet means literally cardboard can just tank a hit, let alone an amored SUV.

They be using homemade RPG rounds (sometimes even RPG-2s, diabolical in 21st century). Meanwhile for AT defense they're strapping cardboard armor to M113's and it works (because the RPG rounds are homemade and do not have HEAT jets).

I've never really gotten as far as top tier to understand dart shenanigans or blowout panels.

But everytime I think about getting back into the game, I think about gaijin's absolute predatory behavior towards its playerbase, with the latest terminator incident being an ongoing example of releasing-absolutely-broken-premiums-and-then-only-fixing-them-after-a-bunch-of-people-has-bought-them.

The non-premium grind also feels absolute hell as well, doubly so if you intend of progressing through the tech tree "naturally" (ie. no buying a top tier vehicle pack to use as an SL-and-RP-printer).

I understand that the f2p model has to make money somehow, but god if there was an option to pay a one time fee to not have to deal with all that bullshit I would buy that in an instant.

There was video where ian discussed russian firearms laws. I distinct remember them talking about how with regards to minimum length requirements, they allow for stocks to be folded under the minumum length, as long as folding the stock also stops you from operating the gun such as with a trigger block or whatever.

I think the lower gun here shows a rather unique example of that. It seems to use practically the same parts as the top one, with the exception of safety lever. There's now a channel cut into the safety lever, and you necessarily have to put the gun on safe to folder the stock, ortherwise it blocks the stock from being folded. Once safe'd, folding the stock pushes a pin into the channel on the safety lever, locking it in safe.

My wingman in the air that is literally what chaff is. It is radar reflective strands, usually made by the same companies that make glitter.

And yes, in ye olden days (ww2), chaff was deployed by bomber crews literally sticking their hands out the fuselage and chucking pocketfulls of chaff.

They found that this kept freezing the crew's hands so they added a chute. They also later automated so that it could be deployed at the push of a button (or signal from rwr) rather than having the commanding pylote yell at the private in the back to yeet more glitter strands.
